Thread: Anyone here fish Lake Juliette?

I have a couple times, but I can't anymore because of my boat engine size.

But, it is a very tough lake to fish. Most people fish up around the power plant.....I never really had any great luck anywhere fishing for crappie on Juliette. Of course, I only went just a couple times too....

I agree on the toughness. My son and I put in at the Holly Grove ramp (back in the standing timber) and we fished minnows around many of the standing trees. Nothing but catfish. We spent Sunday on the lake fishing plastic worms and topwater for bass. I landed one bass and two bream. He landed one bream on a rooster tail.

But, so far, I don't have the experience necessary on the lake to find anything. Just looking for advice from someone who fishes it regularly.

DNR website says that crappie fishing is only fair due to the food supply. That's hard to believe when you look at this lake with all the standing timber, etc.

When I bought my boat (last month), I specifically built it so I could fish Juliette. It's a Carolina Skiff with a 25 Yamaha four stroke.

With all the grass in the lake, and with us pretty much striking out, I'm wondering if I should have gotten a bigger motor and concentrated more on other lakes. It sure is peaceful though on Juliette. No jet skis, no huge power boats, etc. At most, sailboats on Sunday, but they don't venture off of the main portion of the lake.

It is a great lake, but I think the majority of the problem is in fact all that standing timber providing the fish with so many areas to hide. It is VERY tough to even find them!!! That I believe is the problem. Too many hiding places. But, a very nice lake and like you said very peaceful. But, I knew that I wouldn't be spending much time on that lake for that very reason, it being so tough. So, I got a bigger engine and spend most of my time on Oconee or Sinclair.

I fish Juliette all the time, its a good lake but tough to fish. It took me a year of fishing different areas to learn a good bit about it.

Bream...Use ultralight tackle and a small (1/32-1/64 oz) beetle spin in black with yellow stripe (green stripe works to). You will absolutly tear the bream up using this rig. Just troll around the lake like you are fishing for "green carp" casting to the bank and use a slow retrieve. You wil catch alot of bream, most will be butterbeans, but you can fill the livewell with some big 'gills.


Crappie...is hit or miss still for me, some days I can catch them other days I don't do so hot. Holly grove is your best bet, either tossing jigs and or floating minnows. I like using the Slider jigs for casting. You will probably catch as many if not more Yellow Perch than Crappie, but they are almost as good as crappie when it comes to eating.

Catfish..Have not fished for them at Juliette, I usually go to Sinclair or Blackshear .

Bass..I don't fish for "green carp" anymore, but they are a heap of them in Juliette.

There is alot of grass, but just fish around it you will catch a mess. Fish the coves as far back as you can go, there are some coves up there that you can spend just about all day in. It can be frustrating fishing at times but it is a good lake, especially since it has no "water lice" to disturb you while fishing.

Hey Dutch -

Where do you fish at Sinclair for cats? I got a bunch of jugs I want to toss out one day.

Do you jug fish at all, or use a rod and reel?

I do pretty good in Beaverdam and Rooty Creek, just about anywhere is good especially if you can find a creek channel running through it. I haven't tried jugging, I like to drift for them. Almost like trolling for crappie, except you don't use the trolling motor much. Rig your rod with a 3/4oz bell sinker and tie a hook about 6-8 in. above that. I use them rigs you buy for salt water fishing for convience. Bait it up and drop it down, letting it just tick the bottom as you drift with the current...just like dropshotting for crappie. The big ones will just about snatch your rod outa of the rodholder. Best bait I have found is swamp jumpers and pinks. You will catch alot of fish, not many monsters, but mostin the 1-4 lb. range. Them's good eatin size. Catfishing will get real good by the middle of July, the hotter the better.

Can't wait till Tuesday so I can get back on the water, this last 8 days of 12's are about to wear me out. Only 4 more days to go.

Hmmm, that is interesting...I got about 6 of them Fish-Noodles ready to go and I want to try to put them out one day while I fish to see what I can come up with....I might wait until it gets a little hotter too!!

Thanks for all that advice. I'll try to put it to good use. My son and I have had decent success with the bream, but he's wanting to get ahold of something bigger. I figure, like you say, it'll just take time there to figure it all out. I know there are some monster bass there. One of my friends landed a 10+ pounder this year. He says that when you do catch a bass, it'll be quality. I've had absolutely no luck with crappie yet. We'll keep trying though.
