Earl has it right....something no one else mentioned, if your making a turn, esp a hard one and catch a fish on the inside, you can try slowing up a bit and if you catch a fish to the outside try speeding up a bit.

Most of the time I start at .8-1.0 mph but there are rare instances that I'll slow down or speed up to get the jigs right in their faces. An example wound be: I'm pulling 1/16ths jigs, have already let more line out, trying to get 'em down to @ 10' deep. I'll slow down to @ .7 mph so they'll dropp a bit deeper.
