Badbull I love it. If I had it to do over though I would save a few more dollars and buy the 898, 998 or 1198 the size of the screen on them just gives you a better picture on the SI. Also the bigger units have 800khz on the DI and SI that the 798 is not capable of. But that being said. The 798 is still amazing. Man I can go by a dock or underwater timber and know exactly where to fish or not fish. It's almost unfair. It is a big learning curve though you have to get used to setting it up and understanding what you are seeing on the screen. Over all I don't regret one dollar I spent on it. If you buy one get ahold of me and I will give you any help I can on setting it up and figuring out what you are seeing.

    Joe,
Thanks for the info! I'm buying for the long run, so I'm going to go back and look at the 898 harder now. One question though, I have a 55 PD with the buildt in transducer. Do you know if the DI and SI will work thru it? I like having the transducer on the trolling motor.

No the us2 in the minnkota will not give you SI and DI. Just 2d sonar readings. But you can mount the transducer for the 898 on the trolling motor. Also the 898 gives you SI DI and 2d. And has GPS. U can find last years models on sale real cheap right now. For 2013 they changed the back lighting on the units to led. It has a much brighter picture now. Some people say the old units were a little hard to read in direct sunlight. But for the price I think I would deal with it. You can get last years 998 for cheaper than the new 898. Hope this helps you. No I don't have the I pilot link. Mine is the old model and is not either net capable. The new 798 hd units can use it though as we'll as all the bigger units. Don't buy from Humminbird itself. U can get the units cheaper from places like bbgmarine.com and universalmania.com

I been looking at a 798 myself. I like the 598 SI too. I almost upgraded to the Lowrance HDS units when I ordered my boat but I was looking at another few grand. I just want a good 2D, DI and SI unit with a 5 inch screen to replace the basic lowrance mark 5 that is mounted from the factory in the bow of my boat. Glad to know you can mount the transducer to the trolling motor. To me it does no good when your spider rigging to know what is behind you with a transom mount transducer.
