Evinrude trouble

Ok guy's,

I've got a 93 Evinrude 120 that's getting zero fire to the spark plugs. Can anyone suggest the problem or give me an idea of where to start looking or who to ask. I think it's either going to be the power pack or the stator and their both expensive. Boat was running great when I shut it off back in March. I haven't cranked it since then. I don't see how either of the two above items could have gone bad just sitting! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Just went thru the same thing with my 200 rude.After listening to so called boat repaire shops and $$$$ later take it to my boat repair shop and he tells me the first thing to check on a rude with no fire is the timer base and pick up.That is after my buddy's repair shop said it is the stator and rectifer.And 1500 dollars later I take it to my usual repair shopand he said sorry you always check the timer base and pick up for no fire.500 dollars later he had me running.Just my experience.Hope this get you in the right direction.

Let me ask you. Did this problem happen suddenly, or did you have problems leading up to the no fire problem. Before I put my boat in the shop last year I had problems of skipping or acting like the engine was flooding. It would be running fine at WTO then all at once it would start skipping and sputtering and had no power. It would do that a few minutes then stop and run fine. I know I had some water in the fuel, I put a water seperator on it and started with brand new fuel and that didn't help.
This last trip I took it to the lake and left it strapped to the trailer and ran it under a load. Didn't have a problem. Took it to Talquin backed it off the trailer and bingo started doing it again. Smoked real bad while the engine was stumbling. Well, I talked to a couple of people and they suggested the crank case was just full of to much oil (for a while I was putting to much oil in the gas) so I ran the boat for a while and burned up some of the gas and adding gas to what was there without any oil. The last day we were there it picked up and started running great and I thought that was my problem. I guess not though. I've never had a problem cranking it just the stumbling problem at WTO. Hate to be so lomg winded I've just been fighting this for three years now and alot of money later it's hosed again!!!

Mine ran fine one weekend next weekend would not hit a lick.Take to a Evinrude shop,they will check it out for you and you can decide if you want to fix it or let them.

I put the question out on iboats. They told me to check the kill switch circuit. I did and that was the problem. I took the control box apart, cleaned everything and it runs like a champ. I just got lucky this time.

good . with i boats and the marine doctor and a little mechanical minded you can do a lot to keep those older motors running.

Your right about that Papa!! I learned more about this boat motor figuring this one out than I have since I've been messing with boats. Thanks for the link and I've got it book marked.
