Went to oconee 2 weeks ago and me and my two buddies started shooting docks out of a canoe[paddleing], when we got back the question came up" what if we was out there with a few beers and got stopped by dnr". would we have got a "bui" boating under the influence or would that be a "pui" paddling under the influence. Haven't read that part in the regs. Just wondering. bought fell out about 20 times. canoes are not the best dock shooters and no we was not drunk or anywhere near it.

If you are paddling and are not under power of any motor you can not get one. If you are under power (including trolling motor) and are impaired and you get stopped you will get a DUI. No such thing as a BUI. If you are stopped while driving a motorized vehicle impaired, don't matter if it's a car, boat, golf cart or cuttin grass in your yard on the lawn tractor you can get a DUI. They will take your drivers license same as if you were stopped on the highway.
Always thought it was funny and sad but I know a guy who got a DUI on a lawnmower so it can happen!
not true, many years ago, my uncle was riding his bike home from a bar. he was riding on the sidewalk and hit a bump the wrong way and crashed. broke his collar bone and messed him up good. police charged him with dui the books state motorized or unmotorized, you have to follow the laws. ever heard of a ticket on a bike? lol:D i got one when i was 16 riding home from summer school for speeding!:p no joke, i have the ticket framed, says going too fast for weather conditions. went to court to fight it and the judge charged me $62.50. i didnt even have a car yet and has points on my insurance when i did buy a car. may be different on the water though, surely they know people are drinking on the water. would be a good question to maybe ask a dnr next time you see one though. maybe ask 2 or 3 and see if the answers vary
Don't know whats on the books Allen, just going by what a DNR officer told me. I guess it boils down to if you're driving a vehicle or not. I reckon unless you're floatin down the river in a tube you better be sober.
i was told that if you are in your car sitting in the drive way with key in ign. they could charge you for dui .fla. man told methat . he lost his licens becouse he was working on his radio in the drive wasy drinking a beer working on his radio
retired and now i will always fish
same here in Georgia papasage or so I was told. Don't matter if you're on the water or on land, keys in the ign = you are driving it.
my dad told me a messed up story of a buddy of his. he left the bar and felt he was too drunk to drive and pulled over. said an officer stopped by his car on the side of the road and he told him what the deal was. the officer is asked him to move the car away from a bridge that was there, he told him he didnt think he should drive. and the officer told him he was fine to just move the car over a bit. the second he put the key in the ignition he told him to step out of the car for dui.
yall know how they operate, every case, a different law. lol
