    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

sounds like a safety switch is bad. My mower will shut off when I put in reverse with the blades running because of a safety switch. If I were having your problem I would look at the sensors involved with that particular safety switch.
To heck with work, lets go fishing.

    Default It's in the book...

Both of you get your service books out and go to the trouble shooting section and it will lead you right thru to the problem. OR call Craftsman number listed on the mower and they will give you the help needed. The one where the mower shuts off while the blades are engauged and you try to back up, after you start the mower turn the ignition switch back one click and that should taske care of your problem. I forget to do that all the time myself but I've got fast enough to keep from killing the engine completely. Good luck to both of you guys on your mowers, I have to stick with Craftsman because of the warranty and prices. Ferdi aka Fred

wes has it. look for a push button switch on the deck housing. replace it or bypass it.

If you were mowing and it stopped then chances are you have something tangled in the blades, I've done that a number of times too, or had a belt come off the pulleys. Good luck, Ferdi aka Fred

My John Deere Has An Electronic Clutch And It Did The Same Thing When It Went Bad. I Also Had To Replace The Switch That Engages The Clutch Also.

I had the same problem with my craftsman right after I bought it. They came and replaced a sensor switch and I can't remember for sure which one it was. I only had the mower for about a month. Since that problem it has been a very good mower. I think they were having trouble with the sensors because when I called them they knew what the problem was right away. Good luck.
