Today was a real blast.
We caught exactly 100. We were getting to the point where we were running out of time, but once we hit 90 my fishing buddy and I wanted to make it an even 100 REALLY bad. We stayed over an hour beyond our regular quitting time but it paid off. My friend Don caught the two biggest fish of the day 1 lb 14 oz and 1 lb 13.5oz at number 98 and 99 and I caught a throwback at 100.
We only kept 17 of the biggest as I have no more freezer space available and Don has enough crappie to eat them three meals a day for a month already.
The bite was hot early... but most of the fish were small. We caught 22 before we got a keeper (we keep only 12 inch and larger). Larger fish were taken north of Bear Island, largest numbers of fish were in the Dead Lake/Crescent Lake channel area.
We caught a double limit of 11 inch fish that we threw back, plus a lot of dinks.
There were a LOT of boats out there today.
Fun day.
Tom
PS: Met a nice forum member at the ramp when we were leaving... Forum name Wapphish, and his fishing buddy who's name I did not get unfortunately. They had a good day too.
