Flycaster = I am sorry I have been calling by the wrong handle(flycatcher). I read the first posting about this slabfest, where boatclub08 would help in setting up something like this.
I live in Sanford and would like to help get this first one off the ground. I will stop by boatclub08 today 1/8/09 to talk with you.
    Thanks

Default 17th going to be a busy weekend

    messsage posted from chucker:
Chucker lives in Sanford and has been checking out the harbor area and the places to have our picnic.
His suggestion is to GET THERE EARLY because it will be a busy day. His suggestion is to get to the parking lot early probably 6:30-6:45 time frame, in order to get a parking spot. Late comers will have to park across the street.

QUOTE"Flycaster, I just came back from the harbor. There is no fish cleaning facility in the harbor area. I talked to Chuck at the boat club tackle shop. He is going to talk to the people that own the boat storage place next door to see if we can set up a table there to clean on. If all else fails, the people at the senior center said I could set up a table over there.

The park is closed in Sanford for repairs, but I have made arrangements to use the picnic area at the senior center next door to the park. We can mark out 4 tables for our use that day. There is water available if we have to clean fish there.

Chuck also said, if we get there after 7:30 am we are going to have a hard time parking. The parking lot get full on weekends early. There is more parking over across the street from the boat club area, is a little walk. The weekend of the 17th is a 3 day weekend (MLK day). Maybe you should poll all of the fisherman to see if we should start earlier.

    I got a question ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Almost got the wife talked into coming to the Slabfest !
She wants to know who all will be there "NOT" fishing and hangin out at the picnic tables (settin up, etc), or wherever, cause she don't want to be standing around by herself while I'm out fishing, etc, etc.
So, could we get a count of all the folks that will be holding down the shore activities while everybody else is fishing?????
And, once again, we're going to have to nail down the check-in time.
As far as the early meeting time (is at present = 8am), I'd say 7-7:30am would probably be a little better based on others arriving to go fishing, not in our group, etc.
"Teach a man to fish = he can feed himself "
"Teach the world to fish = you won't have any fish left to eat "

As Chucker said in above post that the weekend of the 17th is a three day weekend for MLK Holiday. We should arrive and have the boats in the water by 7:00 AM in order to be able to have an orderly exit to go fish.
GUYS, please acknowledge that we should get the boats in the water by 7:00 AM

I will help hold down the fort at the picnic area and get ready to fry up some.....hopeing of course you braggarts catch enough to cook. Just kidding. Know that with that much experience on the water, something has got to give. HA Question. Will there be more than one fryer for hush puppies and fries, or do we do them all in one pot. Found that doing hush puppies browns the grease so will do those last, but the taters clean up the grease....so, did not know if you want to get a bunch done all at one time or not. I think I can get my hands on another fryer set up. Let me know. Also that will mean another gal of oil. Still have a week, but need to nail things down.

Get the second fryer and I will get the gal of oil.

Ask Chuck in the tackle store if he can hold onto it. One of us will retrieve it.

my wife, daughter and mother will be there to set up for the picnic. They are all non-fisherman. Phantom tell your better half that she can hookup with my bride and they can run the show there on land. We are going to need all help we can get in set up for the cooking.
nickp the picnic is set up across street from the harbor, at the senior citizen center picnic area.
I hope we can all get together on a firm time to meet at the boat club. I am going to be there by 6:30 am to meet with Phantom 309. Going to have time to drop off picnic stuff and get bait. I don't think Chuck at the boat club has room to take and hold all the picnic stuff, BUT I WILL ASK HIM TOMORROW and post it. I agree that it would nice to drop it there and have the non-fishermen pick it up.
