Have not got the wife's work schedule yet to know if she will attend or not. Thought I would help with the set up and be the muscle if needed. Will also bring along another knife or 2 and help with the cleaning. Either way, fishing or cooking, will have a good time just meeting everyone and hearing all the lies..........fishing stories during the feast. Will ask my neighbor about the other fryer today and post tonight/early moorning.

Flycaster, Talked to chuck at boat club this morning, he said that we can leave all of the picnic stuff there on the dock. He would keep it for us. I told him that some of the non-fishermen would pick it up some where around 9:00 -10:00 am.
As for as the knifes go, what kind of a speck fishermen do we have that don't have at least one fillet knife. If everyone brings their own, we should have knifes coming out of our ears.
I am going to be on the dock around 6:30 am, in case anyone needs help launching their boat of unloading picnic stuff.

Tomorrow (01/10) is supposed to be a pretty nice day. Wife said we need more practice and I need to get up earlier, so we're going to launch at about 7:00a.m. at Lake Monroe. I don't know what she means, except that last Sunday we were there and came home empty. Anyway, just trying to get ahead of all you professionals!
Two things: I've got 2 gallons of oil - should be enough with fish and potatoes?
Anybody use vhf? (I carry a handheld). Or if there's a big need for comms, I don't mind giving out my cell #. Thoughts?

It's confirmed. I will be bringing 2 fryers so will need the 2 gal of oil. Will also pitch in a bag or 2 of Andy's breading. Fine Missouri stuff that has spread over the south enough, it is now for sale in Texas. No telling when we will start getting it down here. Man...I went out last night to Little Lake Harris to the clay mine ditches figured I catch a couple! Well...didn't even get a hit! Neither did the other four boats that were within a stone throw from me! I hope we have much better luck next Saturday than I had last night! Lookin forward to having a fun little tourney next weekend!

I think we all can agree that this "FULL MOON" last night probably has had a "LOT" to do with ya'll not catchin a bunch of fish (fish feeding all night by moonlight).
And that will continue till the moon goes away in a week or so. Hopefully next Sat we surely will catch enough to have a great day for our Slabfest.
However, the moon has had little if any effect on our (my) team's performance :) (I got to say that to keep ya'll believin that our team is invincible, etc.....)
Let us all take notice that according to legend, first full moon in January signifies the trigger to the Crappie to begin their spawn. And if you don't know what that means, just send me five dollars and I certainly will enlighten you as to it's significance....

Since this is our "First" Slabfest, and this is kinda like our club thing, we ought to have a register book that we list all attendees and details as to how everything went, etc, etc. And since this is a Crappie.com/State/regional thing, I would think that the responsibility of keeping such a record of this (and future) events would most probably fall to the nearest Crappie.com official, and, the closest official I see is our "Moderator" Ha ! :)
John, how do you feel bout gettin us a register book so we can sign in, etc. We'll reimburse you for the costs, etc.

I can set up a sticky thread with pictures etc here on the Florida site.
I'm gonna bring some gal. size ziplock bags to shake/bread the fish in. Will also bring an array of spices. Garlic powder, pepper (red), etc. Also gonna make sure the batteries are charged in my camera.

Could somebody bring a "BIG" pot of hot coffee, I think we'll need it....
As was suggested prior that we fish for 4 hours. 8:00AM until 12:00 NOON. I guess that that is not 4 hours actual fishing, but from the time that you leave the dock until you return. Some will more than likely return early (Hopefully because of catching their limit:D:D) This will give time to get the boats back on the trailers and clearing the launch area. THE FISH WHICH WILL GO FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS should be held separate from those which will get prepared for the grease.Quote:

And, being as though this is the Fla Section, and ain't nobody really mentioned bout puttin a sticky thread as to that slabfest, I feel a bit funny havin one just for this one, etc.

What are some of the other state slabfest names ?
Just a suggestion of the way it is usually done at our Slabfests in GA..We start fishing at daylight and usually fish till around 3 or 4...Then come in for the weigh in and prepare ourselves for some good eating. 4 hours from start to finish doesn't seem like it is long enough to fish, but it is gonna be mighty chilly this weekend. At our Slabfest at Talquin, we fished from around 7 until 12...came in for lunch and the first weigh in of 3 fish...then went back out and fished till dark...came in and had our final weigh in and had an awesome meal....I hope your Slabfest turns out to be very successful and I am looking forward to attending one in FL in the near future...Ang you guys are more than welcome to come up here and fish with us at any of our Slabfests also....Goos Luck this weekend!!!!!

second...for all the newcomers to this lake i don't feel 4 hours will be enough fish time! i think we should be able to start at dawn and work...i mean fish...till 12!

And, I would think that BoatClub08's place (Chuck), has become the point of drop off/pick up for those goods.
And, 8am was just a good number, then was changed to around 7am.

As far as check-in time, we all kinda put 12 noon as a good time, however, I think that'd probably be best determined by how many fish folks have caught, Ha, what if there ain't but ten fish been caught by 12 noon ?
