HEY I JUST GOT HERE. (in Florida) not that long ago. I am still feeling my way around (NO COMMENTS ABOUT THAT):eek::eek:
I have never been an Chief, only and Indian (go do'er)
One of the nice things about meeting for the first time, we will be able to organize and grow.
Things like this, I don't believe have only one leader, but everyone gets involved with setting up events on their own fishing lakes. I can post sticky threads to let those to vote on when and what lake to go to next.
TROPHIES: I talked BOATCLUB08 out of the trophy idea as I expected if we advertised that there were trophies some would expect that there would be CASH PRIZES. I am not a competitive person and would not attend or become a part of it.
We can discuss this in greater detail Saturday.
STARTING TIME TOTAL FISH TIME: It is up to everyone. We can have a "SHOTGUN" start or just go off whenever we get our engines warmed up. DON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO ME. I am in it for the fellowship.:D:D
John
I just got off the phone with Chuckauten...I am trying to decide whether to make the trip down there this weekend. I have always wanted to fish Lake Monroe and would like to meet some of the guys on the Florida Board...Time will tell if I go or not................
Mornin John:
Just kiddin.
Ya'll are right, money/trophy would draw more folks, but, that ain't all bad. However, this is just our first fest around here, and was organized in a little bit of short notice, naw, I was just kiddin around, etc.
I looked at the Georgia slabfest stuff. Seems there are a few of the members that have taken it upon themselves to organize and guide the activities of their fests. That's great, I for one also prefer to be an indian, not a chief, there are people in this world that being a chief just comes natural to and they find comfort and belonging in accepting positions like that.
So, we need a few guys (FlyCaster/Chucker/??) to form a committee and assume the roles of "Slabfest Coordinators" and draw up the rules and regs for the next time, and we all will go by those rules, etc, etc, etc.
That sound good ?
Are we going to do the shotgun start and is it going to be at 7am. I think we talked making it earlier because of all the other boaters that might be there. I had plans of getting there around 6:15 so should I wait or go?
I guess I waited too long to decide to try and make it this weekend. I will have to stay home and hope it warms up enough to try one of the local lakes. I talked to Chuck around 11 and he was just pulling into Sanford. I hope the fish and weather cooperates with yall this weekend.
Hurry TnT and you can make it !
Just got back from pickin up the patato salad and paper napkins.
Drove down to the Indian River and took a look = white caps.
Looking at my accuweather for this time of day (12 noon), it says it's 57deg and wind is 16mph. (Back porch says it's 61 deg)
Looking at tomorrow same time it predicts 60 deg and 10mph.
So, might not be so bad.......
Only thing I think might give us a problem is possible wind messing with the picnic area, etc....
I also think the best way to launch is to report to Boatclub08's place and drop off your stuff, then go ahead and take off.
Oh Yea ! ! ! ! !!
Here's my cell phone number --> 321-258-7459
So, around 11:30am call and I'll give a count of how many fish we got, and if everybody does that then we'll be able to determine if we got enough for a cookout, etc. We'll need one person to call everybody else to tally up etc, etc, then let everybody know to keep fishin or not by the 12 noon point, etc, etc
Oh yeah, I'm leaving in a few minutes to come over there to meet Chucker and Kevin, we're going to spend the night there in the boat so we can get the jump on all ya'll ! :):):)
I wish I could make it Phantom...Hopefully next time around. Yall take it easy on Chuckauten and Speck/Tater.....They are misplaced yankees....:D
Danny - Wife says what time you want us to thaw you out in the morning - sleeping in the boat - I almost fell outta my chair laughing.
We're leaving the house 6:30-6:45 so should be at the landing by 7:00. I think anytime after launching, guys should shove off when thay want - is that a shotgun start?
Cell # 407-583-9072
I'm already looking forward to the next big Central Florida Slabfest and will be happy to help organize and/or put some rules/regs, info sheets, checklists, etc together
See you guys in the morning!
Don
Don;
A shotgun start would be where everybody is present and ready to go, then someone yells "GO" (shoots a gun) and everybody takes off.
So, naw, we ain't gonna do that, just leave when ya get ready to, etc.....
I plan on leaving here at 5am in the morning, that should put me over there sometime around 6am.
Anyone else wants to, give John your phone numbers so he can "coordinate" all ya'll on fish numbers throughout the day :):):)
I'll be there at 6 too my cell is 407-230-1583
my number is 561 262 1712...cant wait till the morning!!

We'll be there at the crack o' dawn. My cell is 352-598-2522. See ya in the am.
Speck/tater(Doug)
If yall fishin proples will call me between 11:30 and 12,will make decision on setting up one fryer or 2 and let ya know what is set up and stuff. Also, where is the weigh in going to take place, the park or the marina? Will have a protable cleaning station so can clean right near cooking area. Also bringing a couple of big garbage bags. Really looking forward to all this, sure hope the fish will be in the mood too.
Dusty
Number is 830-798-3995. Everyone write this down and pass it out at the launch. Will be proud to be POC for this thing. Call every now and then and brag a bit and will pass it along to other callers and us land bound participants.
Robert and Tim;
Appreciate your interest in the slabfest. This thing was pretty much a last minute thought and we all just kinda jumped on it.
Reason we're having it here (Lake Monroe) is cause we're all pretty much local.
I fished Talquin years ago with my grandfather, he had a house/boatdock up there, was a great place.
My problem is that I have a little s-10 chevy truck to pull a 17ft boat. I got five speeds but got to run in fourth gear to keep her going. I have run all the way down to Stick Marsh for a day. Going to Talquin would be a weekend trip for sure (long way), but, perhaps by this time next year I might be in a better position to make the trip, etc.
Hopefully this fest today will energize us all to be anticipating the next one, and we'll put forth enough time to get folks organized and a plan of action formulated, etc, etc....
Is 3:30am Sat morn right now. 40 deg on the back porch. Fixin to load the boat and make a bunch of coffee, then head out.
Yeah, lets start already thinkin about the next one, and perhaps, if not Talquin, then one of those lakes up around Gainsville. will see, etc.....
Have a nice day,
Danny
Gainsville area would be nice as well, although I dont know any of the lakes around me. I guess I should get out and learn a few of them but for some reason Talquin just keeps calling me back. Either way let me know about the next one and I will help out and do what I can
Time to start to plan the next one.
