Used to gig mullet in Homosassa between Thanksgiving and Christmas during the spawn, on ice fast and fried the next day tasted great, after that they were grouper bait. Could still eat a smoked mullet if fresh. Haven't seen a mullet skiff in years.--shu

Funny you should mention size. I worked in Ponce, Puerto Rico some years ago and there is an inlet on that side of the island that had the biggest mullet I have ever seen. These had to be 4 feet long, for real. Not positive they were mullet but sure looked like it.

Boy Howdey. I've caught a lot of mullet. I don't think they get that big. That had to be something else. But I did want to say don't forget the mullet gizzard gravy with the grits.

I could be wrong. Always a first time. Gravy for grits was drippings from fried fish, spooned over the grits. Always ate fried gizzards and roe.
