I'm usually on the water no later than 6:30 this time of the year due to the heat and early sunrises.....but this morning was different. I was taking my 3 yo grand daughter out to catch her first fish. So she got up around 8:30 (early for here) and had a bowl of some multi colored cereal that made the most awful smacking slurping sound I've ever heard. Once that was out of the way we headed to the river and by that time it was already in the high 80's. Our first stop was and area known for some big gills and I wanted her first fish to be a big one. But as luck would have it, the fish didn't cooperate and she was getting impatient to say the least. I started to rethink this first fish thing and was ready to head to the barn. Then I had an idea to take her up river a ways to the lower Wekiva where I knew there were tons of bait snatchers that would bite a bare hook. So off we went and found em.....her first fish (she helped) was in the record book and the trip was a success.....we gave it about 10 more minutes and 4 more fish then headed home.....also stopped by the 7-11 for a big gulp! I was a proud G-daddy!
