Crooked lake
Crooked lake is near Frost pproof..anyone ever fished this lake? I must have passed it a thousand times on the way to Orlando and wondered if there is public access anywhere to it. It seems to be on Ben Hill Griffin land at least on the part close to 27. I seems to be a very long lake .

It is a little drive for me, but fished it last year. It's kinda like (3) lakes in (1), the long section you see from Rt. 27 is about 6-8 ft w/ some piling poles in the south end, pads on shoreline, good bass area. The middle section has holes 25+ft, & the far east section has very deep holes as well, but shoreline is very developed, some nice homes that have private white sandy beaches & there is even a college, I never expected to see that when like you I only seen it driving from Rt. 27. The middle section south end is where I launched from Bob's Landing I believe it was called $5 w/ drop box if there early, was safe parking.
There might be a public launch on the north side of long section off 27, but don't know for sure. When I went is was March & did ok with the specks, but remember when returning to boat ramp, seeing all the locals w/boats in slips had nite lights set-up's for specks. Somebody can correct me if wrong, but also think it is a spring feed lake.
crappie down !

Bob's landing is really only launch site, off hwy 17 about 2 miles north of frostproof.
they do charge launch fee. nice ramp, and protected.
Crooked is a spring fed lake. known for its large size specks. Most fishing on this
lake is done at nite due to clear water.
We had two (2) fcc tournaments on this lake. 2013 - 2014 .... bery difficult
to find them.
There are two (2) brush piles on lake - do not necessary produce, unless working
them 25 - 40 ft off.
Several drop off's and couple good holes that will hold fish a various times of day.
Most fish were taken spider rigging Lake #2 (first large lake after leaving Bob's
landing) Work the 24 -25 -26 ft water on contour lines very, very slowly and
very deept 20' ft plus. minnow tipped zip jigs work the best
Night fishing is entire different story.............

Thanks for the info! I'm maybe 20 miles from it. Sounds like it would be better to try it first in the fall months. I might go check it out this summer..just to cruise around and find the holes and drop offs and brush.. Sounds a lot like Josephine in that it's three linked lakes. Looks to be a LOT larger than Josephine though.

That's gonna take a LONG time with a 7 horse motor!!*l*

For some decent fishing - i would fish Arbuckle - above average ramp in a county
park - no charge to launch - 2,500 acres. Has good supply of Blue-gill, Shellcrackers
(really nice ones) Crappie (Spec's) are of good quality and average 1 1/4 - 1 3/4 lbs.
Fishing is reasonably good year round....................
Can be long-lined - spider rigged - bobbered - single pole jigged.
Located on east side of Lake Reedy (Frostproof) Arbuckle road runs southest
from Reedy follow the ashphalt till you run out of it...........will be at entrance to
Arbuckle lake and park.
Again check out results on Florida Crappie Club forum.

I didn't even know about this lake at all...I know of Arbuckle creek leading into istapoga. Is this connected at all to those? I might just try it this weekend maybe!
-
Can't answer the Arbuckle Creek thing for sure. There is 3 creeks that come
in and out of Lake Arbuckle. The larger of group could be Arbuckle creek at
Southeast end of lake.
Can almost assure you that you will find good quality fish in this lake.
