Any one ever fish the Kissimmee River down by Lorida, Just south east of Sebring?
Used to tear up bluegills and channel cats by the water gates. Seems like speck fishing could be good given depth changes etc.
    A penny for your thoughts?

Good question - have been wonderng same thing since the restoration project
was put into workings - returning the river to its natural state in serveral areas complete with the old oxbows.

Fishing is good from Last Lock on river south to entrance into the big O.
Fish around the weir's to 1/2 - 3/4 mi down stream

I have fished the part from Hidden Acres to the trestle. The trestle itself should be a fine place to find almost anything..Water is about 25 ft deep there. There is an incredible amount of cover ,old trees laying over in the water ,just as you come out of the hidden acres cut. The river drops from about 5 ft on the edges to 14 or 15 then goes to 22-25 in the middle. The various cuts away from the river do hold bedding fish. I haven't tried crappie fishing in the area yet but have caught a lot of bluegills! There are also lots of places to find fresh water shrimp under the pads.

I live on the river at the second lock up. I fish above and below the lock. Fish are a little bigger above the lock. I do good this time of year there, when the water is flowing. We are just getting rain now so they should start releasing water. When they stop the fishing slows down. I haven`t got out lately, will poat a report when I do. Work has me tyed up till at leased the 4 th. Tey are working on our cannal so I haven`t been able to just jump in the boat and go.

The only ramp in the area is by the lock on the west side of s65d. Take 98 to 721 to boat ramp rd. They just built a new ramp, real nice. paved, restroom, large parking, no tables or shelters yet. Hidden acres is about a mile or two up river. I fish from the ramp to the 98 brige, do good there so I don`t go much past it.

    Hi Cap'n
Havin a little trouble following those directions on a map. We used to take 98 off of 27 thru Lorida. Just east of Lorida we crossed a railroad track and took a sharp left off of 98. Followed that road back into a boat ramp. Using a scalable road map i can follow 98 thru Lorida and all the way to the 98 bridge. cant find a 721. Could you possibly clarify if you have time?
    Thanks

One ramp is farther up than lorida. You go on through Cornwell then take a right just before the big bridge over the river. This road is 721.You'll pass Hidden acres ,go over a set of tracks, and the ramp is to the left shortly after that .It's a gravel road. Don't know if this is the one the captain was thinking of though...I never had a boat til recently so hardly ever go to the locks. FIL has a place in hidden acres so I have to use their 75 degree angle ramp! man is it steep!

Many Thanks Fast!!! You and google maps got me lined out!!!! Looks like a fun place to explore/fish!! A few questions if anyone can answer. Is it approximately 12-15 miles from lorida to the boat ramp?
is there a fee for passing thru the lock? Is best fishing in main channel or is the old river bed between boat ramp and main channel any good? is there a bait shop enroute if i am coming from 27?
Plan on bringing a few jigs, worms, crickets and some minnows. Any recommends for who what when where why and how? (without divulging secrets)
    Thanks for the info guys!!

I'd say that distance is about right. No fee for the locks that I am aware of..never was before the rebuild of the river. There was a bait shop in Lorida bit it closed down a few weeks ago...You can get bait at that bar on the right as you go up 98. There is a trailer park behind it and some docks. It's on one of the canals going into Istapoga. The Marathon station at the south end of sebring sells bait too ...Most often get mine there. It's just a few miles from 98.. The gas station at lorida might sell worms but don't believe they have minnows. If the locks happen to be open..you might never even need to launch the boat. If they aren't open...all you'll find are gars...and a friendly little raccoon that hides in the rocks*l*
