If you are talking drift socks, depends on your type of fishing but on windy rough days, for slow trolling can really save your batteries. Biggest drawback is storing them on your boat. Just be sure you have floating rope for them and a dump line in very useful (dump line is attached to rear and is left loose but is pulled to empty it and retrieve from water.) I use 2 42" on a 16' fiberglass boat to slow troll .6 - .8 mph all trolling motor does is keep us on track.
