Have not seen a lot of positive posts on this post - mostly negative and worried about
what someone might give away one of their "honey holes" That might be whats burning
out this forum. At least on FCC results we post winners, what equipment was being
used, jigs or colors, depth and style of fishing including bara. pressure. Everything but
giving cordinates of fish caught and speed of spider or long lining.
Yet only a few come with us because they think all of us are pros, guides, snobs, only talk
about other lakes, other states - when in actuality we enjoy and invite competitors
to fish with us. No dues, nothing, - you can actually show up, fish and weigh in if
you so desire, but unless you paid antry fee, weight will not count against opportunity for payoff, but could have good time and talk about things to improve
your fishing. Last year we had pay out at our Classic of more than $16,500 and all
any team had to do was fish (4) four tournaments, not place just fish and they were
qualifyed for classic. Thirty-three team made classic with 33 rd place receiving more
than $260.00 worth of equipment, dinner, gift certificates and such...........
The four tournaments they entered cost them $240.00 to be part of the group.
Can't beat the payback plus commradship and being with some people that want to
help to become a better fisherman.
Sorry about "soap box", but sometimes i just don't get it.
Harold ...sorry you don't get it....the majority of the CdC members just don't enjoy the competition involving money. We enjoy our friendly competition without entry fees etc. and occasionally splitting a $5 or $10 hoopty. Also I disagree that the forum is "burning out". As far as "only a few come with us because they think all of us are pros, guides, snobs" .....That's just not the case at all. I don't like to think of it as "our group" or the FCC. Our Slabfests are open to everyone and I personally have extended several invitations to you and your members to join us. In fact, last February we had the pleasure of one of your members and his wife join us. Who incidentally won the 1st place trophy that day.
After each Slabfest we post our winners also and we discuss among ourselves what techniques were used as well as baits etc. Our Slabfest are a social event first and foremost.
I think the FCC is a great program for those that are interested, but you shouldn't assume that just because more CdC members don't take part that we are opposed to the FCC.
Harold and Mike... having met both of you and hung out with both of you I have to say you are similar in many ways when it comes to crappie. You both bring people together that love Florida outdoors and love to fish. You both share information with anyone that bothers to ask whether you just met them, or only met them online. Harold one of the best days Terry and I had was when you and Mike the Professor stopped by our camper at Lake Manatee and you had invited Luther (RIP) whom I had been exchanging IMs with. And Luther brought over some old books about Florida fishing areas and old maps and a big old net for catching grass shrimp. And we all shared stories about crappie fishing etc. It was basically like a mini slabtogether because none of us really knew each other but we net through this forum.
And I cant speak for the others but the reason Terry and I dont go to any FCC tournaments is because we get comfortable with a good fishing spot not too far from us and just stick with that. As far as the negativity... I dont see it as negativity so much as a few old goobers having a bromance and always trying to one up each other.
But they are also always willing to help an out of towner that posts or IMs and even take them fishing just as you are. You guys are all promoting the same thing and thank goodness for this forum where so many good people have come together.

I think that alone is a huge part of both. People want to be comfortable and feel confident where and when they are fishing.
Then comes the other part of the equation. Time! The FCC basically has 2 tourney a month with many fishing both sides on occasion. CDC has usually 1 a month except on occasion when Talquin has theirs and Central Florida throws one as well the next week just to get together,Hard to have 2 TX's and a slabfest a month and something not overlap somewhere. I have my 4 in and headed to Crescent so I can join in the slabfests now for that fun as well. And agree both sides are great and both have good fisherman with an edge going to FCC with their following of heavy hitters, but they will share info and techniques to help. Difference I see is with FCC most talk is before hand with the long fishing days and CDC afterwards with the eats and BS session from a shorter day on the water. Personally I prefer the shorter fishing day and good BS session afterwards. 8 hours on the water is a long day, not that I dont enjoy it, but am beat afterwards. So really dont see it as a rivalry per say, more that some prefer the pressure of a true TX style and some prefer a more laid back go fishing and enjoy the fellowship kinda day. All in all with 1 common theme, we are all ate up with Crappie fishing to a high degree.
Really well written Mike. You have probably explained it betten than most..........
We are all in for one common goal "Fishing, commradship & just plain fun" that time
spent where "time kinda just stops" and life really has a meaning. That space where
we all want to get away from the everyday, everyday pace we have to endure to
survive. I personally like the Slabfest program as it is a way for people come together,
common ground, and fisherman have to have someplace to spin their yarns as the wife is tired of hearing it over and over and over, neighbors have gone deaf.
Where else can lasting memories be built. The Theme is "Fishing", not book writing,
golfing, hunting, tennis, bad mitten.
This is what its all about that brings us together
