i have heard a number of stories of people from quincy catching large numbers of crappie (OVER THE LIMIT) in lake talquin and selling them in quincy.

Take a look at their out of state hunting liscense and your state non resident hunting liscense. Now think about all the people from midwest and northeast that reside in Florida for 3 months every winter. If they can afford that stay they could easily pony up $150.00 for a fishing liscense. And central Florida south is the only place on this planet for Osceola turkeys. We should charge $300.00 for non resident stamp. Sure would pony up alot of funding for patrols research and habitat funding. Cut down on some of the poaching if we could double the staff and prosecute some of the riffraff.

Your turkey stamp is $125 for out of state. Here is the deal, Florida's economy only survives off of tourists. These out of staters have to pay gas taxes, sales taxes, motel taxes. Not to mention support all the local business' where they stay. They also are the majority of licenses purchasers by far. Without the out of staters you would be paying state income taxes, higher tag fees, more at the pump, etc. Also, the state would not be able to afford the up keep of many roads, parks, and other things such as boat landings and keeping grass out of these lakes. Though I live minutes from the state line I have gladly spent the $50 to fish Florida Freshwater and another $50 for saltwater for over fifteen years. Many years I have purchased both for my wife also.

How many times a year do you cross the line to fish? 10 times 20 times maybe that an additional $10.00 a trip or $5.00 a trip. Not much in the grand scheme of things is it? Now how about the others who pull a 5th wheel or have a big buss pulling a boat down for 3 months a year. That additional $100.00 is adding beans to the mix. Will it matter to them? Bet not. Take a look at Georgias cost for out of state hunting liscense to hunt deer. Not much when you consider the cost of leases, transportation and such. Has that slowed down the amount of people coming to hunt from Florida? Nope not at all. And you speak of tourists, how bout the people coming from Europe and South America? Do you really think $100.00 additional would matter? Your arguement wont hold water.

I think this thread has moved into a debate well beyond the original intent of the discussion and that's whether or not the crappie size limit at Talquin should be changed or not.

Reading the FWC website, when they look at resource management of a particular water the opinion of anglers carries weight in a scientific study. I'm new to fishing Talquin so have no historical knowledge of the fishery to draw from. There are obviously many opinions from good stewards of the resource from Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, and other states. I'm for returning the conversation to this direction. If enough interest is shown maybe FWC will schedule a Talquin study in their budget.

I visited Humminbird in Eufaula yesterday and talked to some of their employees about Lake Eufaula. Crappie have been crazy up there for weeks with limits being caught on a regular bass. I'm going to get me an Alabama license and go back up there with my boat. Have wanted to fish the lake for years. At the state park just north of town shoreline anglers have been doing very well with crappie and cats.

Please read the facts, not speculate. Over 5 billion dollars brought to Florida's economy through fishing. Twice any other state. 900,000,000 spent on license by out of staters, this is 3 times any other state. Only 31,000,000 spent by residents? Why can't I hold water? I deal in facts not speculation! Here is a recently released FWC report on a lake study that will give us an idea how these things come about. You can see anglers play a very large part in this sort of thing. A number of previous comments fit right in with a self regulation component
