Interesting how the poll is shaping up, but our votes are nothing more than opinions. It will take years of FWC research up the ying yang before any new regulation may be possible. Public hearings, studies, surveys, etc., all of that stuff is what government does. Commercial interest would be a factor as well. FWC could easily determine the fishery is healthy, the economy is served, and both are likely to remain so. Anyway, it doesn't hurt a thing for a dialogue to develop and folks to voice their opinions.

Everyone wants to catch a big fish, however there are lots of factors that enter into size limitations and setting limits. If it is done wrong, it can completely ruin a lake. I have seen that happen locally when a lake about 40 miles from here set a size limit at 10 inches. This caused overpopulation of small fish and stunted the growth. Now, the size limit has been off for years, but it is rare to catch a crappie over 7 or 8 inches and most run about 6 1/2 inches and are paper thin. Biologists need to do studies and sampling to determine if the lake can support such regulation. There are few lakes that can match the big four in Mississippi in size and numbers. When you go to their board and see the reports, it can make us all a bit envious, however what they've done there will not work everywhere. Hope a solution is found that makes Talquin a great fishery for you all.

Where did I say I was in favor of no limits. I ask a simple question and get smart remarks back. As you say, we must be good stewards of our environment. People that know me know I do not abuse this earth, including speckled perch. I rarely get to fish and keep very few when I do fish. And that includes all fish. That being said I don't need a bunch of laws telling me what I can and cannot do. I don't like to measure every fish and have to worry about was that one long enough or maybe a quarter of an inch short. If he is big enough throw it in the cooler, if not throw it back.

Lake Talquin is a great resource and it is our job to keep it that way. Due to the added fishing pressure we are trying to decide what is best for this body of water. We mean no harm to anyone, but are trying to get definitive research to see what everyone's opinion is. You have given yours in favor of no limit at all and it is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to explain your reasoning!

Limiting fish size is ok. Also limiting catch numbers would be good also. Take a look at your rig. How many poles do you use when trolling? How many times do you change baits trying to catch as many as you can. How many small ones die after they are released? I am not judging, I do the same, just asking questions. I don't like laws because I don't need laws. I control myself and try to do the right thing. I don't break laws, I just don't like the fact we need them because we can't control ourselves.

Flycaster, I have known you for a long time, but somewhere along the way something is wrong. I was not upset, just asking a question. I have been a supporter of Crappie.com since joininng. Since that is your feeling, do me a favor, lock this thread and while you are at it, remove my name from Crappie.com. It has been great knowing most of you, but I am going to enjoy the sport of fishing and not dealing with the attitudes of a few. My mother taught me that 10% of the people cause 90 % of the problems. I am not one of the 10%. Good luck and catch a bunch.
