    Default Tampa, near mcdill


    I'm gonna be visiting FL for two weeks, will be staying near MCDILL afb, anyone have any tips on lakes or areas avail for fishing. Never been to this area, would love to catch a few for supper!

    3 lakes in the area.

    Lake Manatee, south of Tampa on I-75 - 2,500 acre impoundment with
    20 hp motor restriction or use of trolling motor only. In the Manatee State Park.
    Excellant crappie fishing. (from McDill approx 35 mi)

    Lake Tarpin, north of St Pete on Highway 19, Tarpin Springs, Fl. 2,500 acre
    impoundment. No restrictions.
    Excellant crappie fishing. (from McDill approx 35 mi)

    Medard Reservoir - 850 acre impoudmant, on 5th year rebuild stage from repair
    to dam. Good to excellant Crappie fishing, low speed only, no motor restrictrion,
    10" limit on crappie.

    Some great shore fishing near MacDill in the saltwater too. Picnic Island Park and across the peninsula to Ballast Point Pier which are both free.

    Try Lake Tarpon. Two ramps - Chestnut Park on the southeast side of the lake and Anderson Park on the northwest side off US 19. Google them for more info. Good ramps if you have a boat and Anderson is open 24/7. Chestnut opens at daylight and closes about 5:30 pm.

    Everything pretty much controlled by "if you have a access to a boat" Most
    inland lakes down here require watercraft not much bank fishing compared to
    northern lakes.
