I agree that November should be left open for those that can make Talquin and possibly throw a fruitjar around here non points asociated fer fun like last year. Maybe a Harney run in March.

Awhile back, we had a saltwater get together on one of the clinker islands.
A couple guys brought them unfoldable tent/shade canopies (like we had at Cresent), and we had several coolers, and
some brought chairs. We also brought tables and a couple of gas grills.
It turned out pretty well, not as many folks as in a slabfest but probably 15 folks.
So, is certainly achievable for a slabfest at a none unilities place if we plan correctly .........
This is just my opinion...I started attending Slabfests here in GA several years back. We didn't then nor do we now have as many Slabfests as you do in FL. But when we had one, it usually was at a place where there was a campground and alot of members made a weekend of it. By saying that, we always had facilities where you could cook and clean up and usually a pavillion of some sort to eat under and sometimes we just had to eat out in the open on some picnic tables. From what I have seen yall do at Crescent and what I read about on here, someone always has to come in early from fishing to get things set up for the cooking and the eating, then afterwards everything has to be packed back up to take home.....Quite honestly, that is a helluva lot of work. I am not sure who does what at these Slabfests, but from what I saw at Crescent, Speckanator and Flycaster were the main 2 people I saw in the limelight setting it all up, cooking, putting it all together and packing it all up. I know there was help from others and I am not implying in no way that they were the only ones and I don't want to step on any toes. Yall are lucky to have these 2 guys that work their Badonkeydonks off to pull these events off!! I think that these responsibilities should be shared at each event and evenly distributed so that everyone can enjoy these great events. At the Slabfests we have at Talquin, Heavylead, Hooker and myself pretty much do the planning, cooking, and whatever needs to be done with some help from others. When I go to Blackshear, Ragfly and Papasage pretty much handle things. When we went to Harding, it was pretty much on Falcon Smitty...and so on. Flycaster and Speckanator have never said a word to me, but from my personal view, it would be nice to see them sit back at a Slabfest or 2 and enjoy the day fishing and eating and let others fill their shoes. It's always nice to have a cookout of some sort at these get togethers, but some places just dont have the facilities and that's even more work on the ones that are organizing the event to make things come together. Maybe a day of fishing and then everyone meet at a pre-determined restaurant for an early dinner would make things easier...Just an idea...Not that I need to (because everyone knows it) but I just wanted to give a Hats Off to Mike and John for all they do for Slabfests. I believe everyone has their hand in these events to a certain extent and I aint gonna start naming names cuz I am sure I'd miss someone. I hope I have not overstepped my boundaries here, but yall have one of the best groups of people I have ever been associated with and I'd hate to see it change.....Just my :twocents
Sounds like we should take TnT's advice & go to 3banana's in January at Crescent after the slabfest:biggrinQuote:

Under consideration is:
OCTOBER -- Lake Monroe, Volusia County Park.
NOVEMBER -- November should be left open for those that can make Talquin and possibly throw a fruitjar around here non points associated fer fun like last year
DECEMBER -- Astor, December 14th. (sounds great)
JANUARY -- Crescent Lake, Crescent City would this be a slabtogether and fish til 3 or so? (Awesome, cant go wrong)
FEBRUARY -- Lake Griffin, Lake County ( tough one vs stay home and sleep)
MARCH -- Maybe a Harney run in March. (Great idea / recommend a run from north to south vs trying to figure out the south end of the lake from 46 / Mullet Park? )
APRIL -- CLASSIC at Lake Monroe, Volusia County Park.
For the Lake Griffin State Park, there is a fee for the rental of a pavilion and an entrance fee of $ ____ per each vehicle.
Discussion was also about the POINTS RACE. Idea expressed -- Have Six ( 6) scheduled events and only using Five (5) for the total. Each entrant will have the capability to discard one event, weather due to a no show or poor performance. ( With the current possible 2013 schedule...how about 6 events and 2 throw outs?)
Would we want to award Trophies at each event with/without cookouts or just record official weights for the points race? ( Create a "Winners" permanent thread/Plaque on our boards, with tips from the winners on what worked for them. / Cookouts are great but require a ton of effort from the usual folks,.... I admit I am not one of them for assorted reasons while working full time for the man. Still feels badly seeing the same few always cutting their day short. I would be willing to support/donate $ to bring food in to limit thier unspoken grief.)
Discussion on additional activities, which may not enter into the POINTS RACE, have a "fruit jar" event, Will the fruit jar events be totally independent of our regular monthly events or the entrants catch be able to compete in the points race?? These events could be scheduled without much notice (Another great suggestion)
Would need someone to step up to co-ordinate these events. where each entrant is required to pay an entry fee and the total of the entry fees would be paid out to the top three of the event.
Will need someone to be responsible for heading up this activity.
Would trophies be awarded??? If so, need to acquire fund to purchase trophies separately. ( how much is the average cost per event? maybe someone is willing to sponsor event trophies? can we discuss costs on the boards? members only?)
For those who wish not to participate in the financial and awards part, they would be welcome to join in the fishing and be able to "unofficially" weigh-in their catch. (Still would love to give them an award............maybe they will keep on coming back and help the family grow)
WHAT you talkin about Willis??? My babys name is ...............Louisa.............I am a Louisaian :) lolQuote:

Crescent City Cowboys works too :)
My idea on the fruit jars were totally independant of slabfests. Able to be scheduled on short notice by anyone anywhere. Payout would be up to whoever throws it. I was thinking winner takes all if I hold one. Do enough math at work, keep the fun simple. Also opens the doors to areas like Woodruff, Wildcat and Diaz and all the other areas that people request from time to time.
