Nice report & pictureHighland Park is a cool place & the Norris Dead River run to lake is awesome.
I've seen some pretty cool wildlife strolling the banks in there.
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Don't forget Dexter. There.s an island on the way to Woodruff from Astor that we used to get a bunch of good shellcrackers from. You could hear the snail shells hitting the bottom of the metal boat I had. They weren't everywhere but when we found em it was SWEEEEET.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I just got back from a 2 week fishing trip in the Astor area. I stayed at Bean's Front street bait & cabin. The weather was up and down, but I had a lot of nice days. I only keep enough fish to eat, but I like to keep track of how many I catch. The fish has to be a minimum of 11" to deserve a hit on the counter. In 14 days of fishing I got 201 fish over 11" and I keeps some beautiful 15" + fish.
The thing I like about staying in Astor is if the weather is not so great you can just go on the river and troll and catch some beautiful fish. On the nice days I went to Dexter and down Tick run to Woodruff. I only troll with 1/16 and 1/12ouncee jigs like Hal flys and Jiffy jigs. The best colors for me where orange-green-orange, red-blue-white. Here is a link to Bean's place, you can't go wrong staying there, tell them John form Ohio sent you.
