My advice is to check out the you tube vids as suggested above to get an idea of the equipment & methods for speck huntin..........Next try to find a decent crappie lake thats not too big & try a few things out........But beware........you may strike out a time or two but it does not mean youre doing somthing wrong..........specks can be contrarry critters........you can wreck em one day & blank the next.......I am sure of one thing .....Once you have a good day of speck fishing you'll be as hooked as the fish you caught
