A buddy and I were fishing on Old Hickory Lake in Tennesse one day when we noticed this owl flying throught the trees. We watched him fly and land in a tree before we started moving down the bank. We were fishing with topwater jerk baits for bass and my buddy had gotten a wind loop in his line and was trailing his lure behind the boat when suddenly that owl swooped down and grabbed his chartreuse/tiger striped bait and started to fly off with it. He pulled the loop out of the line before my buddy realized what was happening. He jerked the line and the owl fell into the water. He flew up and was pulled down a couple of more times. Even though my buddy was facing away from me, it was almost like his head was transparent and I just knew he had this dumbfounded look on his face as he tried to figure out what to do. I told him real quick that there was no way in heck that owl was coming anywhere near the boat. It was not about to rip us to shreds but we didn't want the owl to have those three sets of treble hooks stuck in him either. After several minutes of deliberation, we decided we were going to have to break the line and hopefully everything would work out. We let the owl start flying again and he immediately landed in a tree. While we were sitting there talking, the lure just fell out of his talons. After all that, the three sets of treble hooks never even stuck in him. We laughed about that for a while and my buddy saying no one would ever believe this story.
