I believe my son was about six at the time. My nephew, my son, and myself went to the power plant intake. Now this was a saltwater intake. I had him hooked up and was fixing my pole. He was standing on the shoreline jerking his rod from side to side. About the time I told him to stop that he wasn't going to catch anything that way a flounder about 14" hit his hook almost jerking the rod out of his hand. What a shock to me. A few weeks later he went fishing with another kid and that boys dad. Later I was told about his catching another flounder on a rod. I told him he had done something I had never done. That was catching flounder on a hook. I had always gigged mine. Till this day he still likes to fish and I still have not caught a flounder on a hook.

I took my wife and six year son to a pond and turn over the boat lying on the bank. About half way across the pond a water snake crawls out from under the seat. They jump up on a seat and scream and rock the boat-after about 30 seconds the snake has enough and crawls over the side. Neadless to say I didn't get to fish to long. Wife didn't go much after that but my son grew up to be a super fisherman.
