    Default S I unit

I got a Si and it is not showing fish and it will show correct depth thento jump to another depth. IE. it goes from 12' (correct) to 567' (wrong depth)
Then scroll back to 12. Anyone have any ideas why I have these 2 problems?
    Transducer not adjusted right?

    Bill,

Have you updated the unit with the latest software?

How much does the update cost? How long will an update take(to get the unit back)? If a guy buys a new unit should he just go ahead and send it in?

    Two suggestions:

Mine won't show fish unless the SI range is short, say 30-60'. I think any wider and the fish are just tiny dots on a 150' scale. NO WAY TO SEE THEM, especially with my poor eyes. If it won't show fish on the vertical beam (non-SI view) the sensitivity may be set too low.

The depth change sure sounds like a transducer issue. Kinda like it is kicking up. But if it is at higher speeds, say like +25, it may be an adjustment issue. I've had mine for three years now and it won't pick up worth a crap while on plane and I've pulled my hair out adjusting it. Finally gave up and deal with it.

The latest update seemed to have helped me the most. They are FREE to download once you register and set up an account.

You might want to consider installing a transducer switch and a high speed transducer so that you can at least read depth and temp. End of problem.

    Dickeyboy,

If you will take a picture of your transom and send it to me I will give you a suggestion on where to install the transducer. My email address is [email protected] .

If it is a new unit ,you already have the new software. If not it is free off the humminbird site. I had trouble losing depth lock when running around 20 mph. I adjusted the transducer for more of a angle and it fixed it!!

I just got a 997 and have the same issue on my unit , when I go over about 10 mph I loose depth. Im shooting a 30 foot roostertail from my transducer when im up to speed say 30+ mph in my 1850 Crestliner Sportfish. I may need some help in the location. I went by the instructions , but hopefully someone can help. Its rough running across the water not knowing how deep your running in.
