    Default humminbird 788i

When i go over structure, it just shows up as a big glob. Depth does not go past the blob just the top of the structure. And sometimes when in a couple feet of water it will go off the wass and read 5o to 80 ft. ( trolling motor mount )

    wannabecrappieking.

Go in the menu to under the sonar menu and change your max depth to the deepest lake you fish. For an example if the deepest lake you fish is 150 feet. Go in and change your max depth to 160 feet. This should help you. I would also update your software in your unit is possible.

crappieking, how old is your unit? Isn't that the new 787 replacement? If so, why would you need an update on a new unit? I am thinking of getting a 788i, but if I have to start out with an update, they may just be too much of a pain to mess with.

I was having other issues with my 788C and finally I reset the unit back to factory settings and magically the problems were solved. I think factory is almost what I will leave it on.

ya I have some of the same issues, if I set my unit on advanced and adjust my offset it reads a bunch of wacky depths. Sent the question to hunmminbird and haven't gottena response. As long as I leave the unit set at factory presets it reads accuratly 90% of the time, it still chases wacky depths now and then but not often like when set in advanced. My 787 C2 never chases stupid numbers like the 788CI does.
