    Default TVG "off"

Curious how anyone else is liking this feature - I've got a couple trips
in so far with the new update.

On my rear unit, 797/transom mount, I really like what it does with it off.

The 787/universal sonar II on the front, I like but...
if the tm is on at all, the 200 beam has so much interference
that I can't get rid of that it's useless. BUT I turned off all but the 83 beam,
    and it works pretty good

Seems like before, the 83 beam was the main culprit with my interference
problems, but I just don't know. Anybody else running into the 200 freq
problem with the tvg off? A few more trips will tell, but I still think I like it
better up front with it off, even if it means I can't run the 200 freq.

If I'm moving enough to get arches, it seems OK, but if I'm moving slowly or sitting still, it get pretty cluttered.

I'm not sure I know what TVG is, I have not read or played enough with mine yet. But since I upgraded to the new version of the software I have noise problems with the big motor running and I didn't have this before??? Could this be due whatever the TVG is??? I have little dots all over the screen with the big motor is running and none with it off and using TM.

Fisherman, I don't know enough to get all into the tech of it, but
anyhoo, it's on the 4.510 update, under the "sonar" pulldown.

Gives you a choice of tvg on or off. Beyond that, I know they said
it stands for "time variable gain" and it has a big effect on the 2D sonar,
and supposedly "on" is how it was before the update.

But I'm just as lost as anybody - I'm too old to be gettin this deep
    into electronics :p

I know it'll be a big PITA with a powerdrive tm, but I'm gonna eventually just HAVE to
try a seperate transducer with this thing, see how much of my trouble is the built in USII

Since the update my 200 doesn't work worth a crap on my trolling motor mounted transducer on the Matrix 97. Like you can't tell any difference in the transom mounted 997. The depth does not read correctly on the Matrix now either. Actually showing fish below the bottom of the lake. Think I may check into going to the previous version for the Matrix seems I was much happier with it before. I had been considering sending the unit in for repair looks like it may be the update.

The verdict is still out on the bow mount "TVG off" setting in my book.. I have been getting good results from my 1197 with transom mount.. My buddy's 967 bow mount has alot of trolling motor interference as well.. He is going to install one of those filter kits from Humminbird and see if that helps any.. You can run your noise filter on the unit up and it mayy help out.. Not sure what the filter does to the fish detection sensitvity?

The filters took care of my trolling motor interference. When I'm moving fast enough to get arches, I have a beautiful screen, but moving slow or sitting still I have a cluttered screen. I may need to play with my settings. I'm getting long in the tooth, and have a long learning curve for this stuff.
