I have ordered 2 Optima D34M batteries for my MK Terrova 55# TM. It is a 12 volt system. They are the only batteries I have found small enough that I can put two of them in my battery compartment. I plan to wire both batteries in parallel (red to red - blk to blk) to keep the output at 12 volts. Is there any reason this would not work? I assume that charging one battery will charge both of them? Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

You can charge them as one just fine. The two batteries are only slightly larger capacity than one Trojan SC225 though. 120RC for the D34M, so you have roughly 240RC vs. 225RC for a single Trojan SC225.

I use that setup too! Just remember it takes twice as long to charge them.
