Lowrance Side Viewing!!! No Rumor: Sonar/GPS Installation & Operation: BBC Boards

Just a comment of my own...do you find it ironic that HB comes out with a software update for their 2d long about the time that Lowrance offers SI. Given the fact IF Lowrance SI has the same or nearly the same quality and functionality that the HB SI offers, it only stands to reason that they would make an attempt to clean up their 2d image. Could be a coincidence .

Gotta love competition...good for the consumer!

it looks like it was taken with a humminbird 997. if it is theirs you are only paying double for what humminbird already does how ironic is that
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad

    Points of emphasis:

Correct me if I am wrong...

Lowrance provides a better solution for 2d
Lowrance broad sounder software takes that to a new level
Lowrance GPS has yet to show users the "lag time" in the gps system, HB has
Humminbird provides SI (giving the operator a unique perspective to the underwater world)
With the advent of the SI from Lowrance, and if it is on par with Humminbirds solution it could result in a "break even" situation

Pricing (from my vantage point) comparing the hds 8 without a transducer is $90 less than humminbird 997 without a transducer

Lowrances' puck could be a deal breaker, but "competition" should keep it in the ball park.

Now my statement in regards to Humminbird coming out with a software update, in my mind this is an indication on their part that they need to up the ante for their product to keep people in their camp. Fixing the GPS problem would do wonders for them!!

I fail to see, at this point in time, how Lowrance is charging DOUBLE what humminbird does for their product. Granted, as I have stated, the price of the ducer is still an unknown.

Don't get me wrong, I am on the fence....will get either the HB 997si or the HDS 8. Just waiting for the smoke to clear and get by with what I have.

Food for thought...last year Lowrance had rebates of $200 for sonar's in the 8" catagory. Wishful thinking that they would provide the same thing this summer, especially with our economy being what it is. Haven't seen anything in regards to Humminbird and rebates. (Rebates aren't going to be the final decision for some...but if all things are equal and you could save a C note or 2....why not?)

i would stay with the hb they are already updating the 2d and the side imaging has been tweaked a lot i figured now with competition they will fix the gps problem.now wait and see what type of problems lowrance is going to have the new units are having problams inquiring locks on to satellites and they already need a update to read navionics ,i would think there problems are just starting were humminbird is getting closer.that is just my opinion also price wise there unit will be at least a 1000.00 more total .if it is even there screen shoot it looks like a humminbird

That example image on the link is not up to par with humminbird images in my opinion. Its very dark except for the areas closest to the water column. Now this may just be a poor example image so I'd like to see several more for comparison.

Also something to think about. Will the Lowrance be able to mark waypoints out from the boat on the SI? That is one think I have seen asked? If not its not worth buying for me. AS I like that I can see a brush pile 200 ft left of the boat. Mark it and go fish it with no problem.

You bring up a very good point Shiloh....I just assumed it would have this capability:o.

Your right on ShilohRed. If the marking of something on the SI and really going to it would be a better benefit if it really works.
    The stakes have been raised.

I bet good money Lowrance has been thru the HB si. I sure would if it were me. It will have the same basic features. I base this opinion on personal experience (for what it is worth).
