I Currently Have A Minn Kota 101 36 Volt Trolling Motor On My Boat. It Is A Very Good Trolling Motor. I Kept 2 Motor Guide 109 Trolling Motors . The One Form My Last Boat And The Spare I Used On It. I Kept Them In Case I Didnt Like The Minn Kota. I Do Like My Minn Kota But To Be Completely Honest I Dont Think It Is Have A Good A Trolling Motor As The Motor Guide. If I Had It To Do Over Again I Think I Would Get Another Motor Guide.

Personally, I would look for the features you want and in the price range you need and buy that. If you read this forum long enough, you'll see folks prefer either Motorguide or Minnkota mostly because they've had good success with either one or the other.

I prefer MG, and I have had both. MK has some nice motors also.

Used MG for years, then MK beat them on quality and features. Still using MK, but looks like MG has improved their product. I'll use whatever gives the best product, at the best price.

You're gonna get a lot of Chevy vs Ford responses with an open ended question like that. That said, I'd vote for MK. If you're buying new take a look at the new Fortrex. Looks to be a better designed mount. Can't speak to the AP models as I've never run one, but they do look interesting.

If you are looking for a motor for strictly longlining (trolling) for crappie, Minn Kota Power Drive V2 with Auto pilot is the only way to go...For any other way of fishing that does not include longline trolling, I agree with Wannabe

MK for me, but MG makes one heck of a tough motor. Had one that came with my boat and a deer ran into it the second time out and shattered the head. That motor was retired 3 years later when I got my Terrova.
