ok with much looking I found these. One is the trolling motor mount and the other the transom mount. both are 9 hdsi 180t
XHS is the transom and the xtm is the trolling. I'm wondering if they will both work the same and have the inside guts. Is there a reason you put the XTM on the transom? Did you get yours straight from humminbird? I find them online and the transom mount is a little less expensive.
    Decisions,decisions
Anyone else convert over and use the transom mount. Would think that the trolling motor surfboard type would throw up a huge rooster tail!!

The first two look like the one that came with my 1197c. Big makes a rooster tail when going on the lake :D
Oh yea I like the braided wire covers. Looks like the braid we use for remote handheld machine controls. I never
thought about using it on the boat what a great ideal.

I guess it's true, size DOES make a difference.

Here is another email that Greig from Humminbird sent to me

    Dave,
The transom (XHS) and trolling motor (XTM) versions of the HDSi transducer are exactly the same - same size, same insides, same cable. The hardware that gets shipped with one versus the other differs is different. The mounting hardware for both the XHS and XTM versions is available separately.

Now there is a true trolling motor Side Imaging transducer (no adapter brackets) but it has the same insides as the 797's CSi transducer. It is the same as the 797's CSi transducer but it is shaped for fitting on a trolling motor.

If I were you I would get the same mounting type as what you have now with your CSi transducer.

I installed this one in my Ranger. My hull has a step, like a built in setback/jackplate and the underside is flat and perfect for this true thru hull transducer (yes, I drilled a 1" hole in the bottom of my boat). I works great. Except that it does not work at all when on plane because it is out of the water. But off plane, no matter what speed, it has a clear view out both sides and works fine.

I installed the original 6" monster transom mount transducer on my pontoon boat so that I can use the 997 on either boat.

The first two picts from JWhite are the ducer that comes with 997, it gives great Si photos, and yes same as one on 1197 & on some boats it throws a rooster-- however this is caused not by ducer BUT by water flowing thru space between mounting bracket & boat which U can see if U look straight down from above bracket where it screwed to boat. No matter as HB now makes & gives?? U a small deflector piece to mount above bracket--call JWhites friends at HB cust service?
The picts by laser doc are of two different ducers, not talking about the brackets..........

Can't take credit for that a man named Frank G.
(can't spell his last name) that used to work at summerset
marine up in Wisconsin did the rigging and I reckon that
cover is a thing with him. I do like it though, so I've kept
    re-using it when I re-do something.

    Good elec. tape
wrapped not stretched, and cut instead of pulled into will
stay around the legs of the trans. for a looong time and
not come off - seems to kill most of the roostertail
