Default H-B 997si Gps do they still have problems??

I have been considering buying a HB 997 SI and was wondering if they have addressed the problem with the GPS yet? It is amazing on most of the other forums you do not hear anything about the Gps problems. All you hear is how great these things are. I really dont want to spent $2000 for a unit that you have to have a seperate Gps to mark and return to your waypoints. Thanks for any help. 32Racer

This is just my guess, but I think why you don't hear much about the GPS
from other folks is because we're a pretty demanding bunch on here
Locating lots of small stuff and positioning right on top of it, I think that's
probably more demanding of the equipment than say for example, the way most bass guys use it.

Anyway, I've sort of got used to the GPS on my 797 and 787, the time
delay has got to be more of a minor inconvenience to me than a major problem. I wouldn't put off buying a SI unit over it, but that's just me.
If and when (if they can) improve it, I'm guessing it will be a software update,
and it should be free to everyone, at least that's the way it's worked in the past.

But to directly answer your question, no - nothing has changed, the units are still the
same and their run-around evasion of the topic when you call them has not changed either.

I'm with J. I tinkered around with my 787c and J is right. After you get used to it, it's not "too" bad but it still needs to be fixed. Bass guys are going to find some structure, mark it, pull up to it, throw a marker and fish. They back off of the structure and cast to it. Depending on what the structure is...they may not need to be that accurate(within a few feet) of said structure. We, on the other hand, are trying to fish small areas with pinpoint accuracy and we also move at very slow speeds, when trolling. Both of those combinations add up to the unit having to make adjustments to very slow movements and that's why we are seeing the circle instead of the arrow or boat. The unit thinks we are sitting still, when in reality, we are moving at less than a snails pace.

After seeing Crackers in action, I would buy one if I could just convince myself to spend the money.

If you want to see some pics of the SI in action, go over to the TENN. board and look at the shots Cracker and I took at Gibson Co. Lake. :D

Sorry to disagree but my guess is its a bigger problem for them than they can handle, on 95% of questions they tell U to offer it as a Suggestion & seemly will discuss it freely & openly. Not slow GPS--only once have they said they will look??? then the quiet & quiet to this day-- I feel they really knew this on day 1 but rushed to the market for the all biggie buck thinking the Si would totally overwhelm us &/or that we are just dumb fishing folks. The same thinking as the american auto industry which would still have us driving 1970 chevy auto if it wasn't for toyota & honda. If U want a Si get one, if U want GPS get a GARMIN:rolleyes:

I did put two (2) "ifs" in there Jaxsprat :D

    I'm still wondering if it's
A - just needs software fix and they ain't got roundtuit
B - needs more "thinkin" capacity, not fixable
C - they are just totally ignoring us, hoping we'll go away
    or
D - none of the above, who knows?

Oh, and I'm just funnin' ya, but I wouldn't mind being able to go buy a 1970 Chevy (new) with a V8 that I could work on now
it's the oh, roughly '73 up through early or mid '80's GM stuff
    that makes me cringe

I gotta seeing eye dog for the 997. Poor feller needed help finding stuff. I mostly use the SI function now.

I changed my strategies with the GPS. I use it to get within 200 ft of fuchsia colored waypoint tags, cut big motor, deploy tm and cruise to the sweet spot using my Garmin.

GPS has screen refresh probs, but just have to adapt to its quirks. Overall I like the unit even though the GPS sucks.

2000 dollar underwater movie making camera. haha

I know, you folks have seen this picture before.:p:p:p
