Love mine, getting it in and out of the water is slow but so am I I have tied a rope on the top unit and just hit the foot release and lifted straight up and it comes out of the water just fine. I just love the power it has. and it is easy on the batteries also..... good luck on your purchase. the 997 is awsom also ...

I drive mine outta the water. I get the TM head pointed straight, then hit the foot power switch. It drives itself out of the water...... Just pull it on out when the prop breaks the surface of the water. Saves a lot of lifting.

I dont think I will try that. be my luck I would go over the side and hit my head and drown or get run over by someone.. they are good trolling motors I like mine a lot... good fishin to ya.

Great Trolling Motor....same problem as you guys with deploying...I came close to falling in the lake a couple of times so I came up with something that helps me. In my old boat, I sat close enough that I could push it with my foot, but the boat I have now I cant do that,so I have a steel pipe to put in between the foot of the motor and the bracket and use it as a lever and it works great.....Either way, I wouldn't be without it...Also try Hodges Marine Electronics - Marine FishFinders, GPS, VHF, Radars, and more! for some good prices with only $6.95 for shipping....I gotta try that "Driving it out of the water" technique

If I can find a good strong car door lock actuator, I will fix that bending down part.

I will push a button and release the TM lock. This will end the squatting down and fiddling with that darn release arm and almost falling out the boat scenario. This is what us old folks needs for this release.

When you get that down to a science, maybe you can share that with us. I have always hear that if you give the laziest man the hardest job, he'll find the easiest way to do it...I am always looking for easier ways:D..Until then, this is how I do it...Sure takes alot of straining and aggravation out of it:
(I also spray Pam cooking oil on the shaft occasionally)

I bolted a plastic paint handle to the release arm. I adjusted the big jam nut on the shaft up as far as I could get it so when I bang the handle it makes immediate contact. When I bang that scraper handle with my fist ,that thang deploys pronto.

I did some filing on the medal plate too. IBNFSHN had a pic posted where to file and that helped a lot.

I got too much stuff up front.

I like what you did, but without going outside in the dark and looking at mine again, I am not sure what jam nut you are talking about..But I will find out tomorrow...Nice job!!!
