My GPS 72 did the vertical line thing yesterday and I had to pull the batteries to turn it off and then I disabled WAAS and keep fishing however it sure was harder to find my stumps etc. I have a friends GPS 76 and just went into the yard and it didn't do it but was only out there for about 5 mins. Will try again with my 72. (on edit) Looked at the 76 and it already had WAAS disabled so I enabled it and left both outside, the 72 went down again but the 76 is still going, thats with WAAS enabled. Will leave out for an hour and check again. I like Garmin units and don't need mapping so what to get if I replace.

    SteveJ,
I downloaded Garmins WebUpdater and used a cable I got off of EBAY cheap. I ran the updater plugged in and turned the 72 on and it found the unit but there are still no updates. I did see a Mac option for downloading the Webupdater.http://www8.garmin.com/support/colle...t=999-99999-27 Cables for 72. http://search.ebay.com/search/search...fsop=32&fsoo=2 Take care.

I just checked their website I dont think it will work for Mac. I would check EBAY for cables. Went fishing yesterday my 72 never went out once.

Mine was fine yesterday to start out with. But it also started out with the line thing when I was quiting.
Also would get on a waypoint. And nothing was there. Sure made it hard to find brush.

Please contact Garmin Support. Maybe the more we bug them the faster we get a fix.

I have sent them 2 e-mails so far. Asked about the problem and another asking about hooking up to my mac. Been kind of looking at other Garmins but sure don't know what to get if they don't fix this. I have heard these guys have a good rep for cables etc.

Still no results from Garmin. Fish are bitting and my Garmin 72 is still messed up. Maybe a different company next time !!! Here is what they have said so far :

    Buddy,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

This is something that we are currently working on with a software update. This problem is caused by the use of WAAS. As a workaround to get your unit to work, you will need to turn off WAAS. To do this you will need to hit the menu button twice to get to the main menu. Now choose the option for setup and press enter. Now you will need to go down two times and highlight the option under WAAS, it probably says enabled right now. We need to change this to disabled. After you change that it will not freeze up on you anymore. We are working on a fix to address this however at this time we do not know when it will be available. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I like my Garmin so I have been thinking about a GPS 76map, has anyone had any problems with those with the fixed satellite and the new one?

    SteveJ,
My understanding is the Garmin 72 & 76 are doing the same thing. When I talked to Mark at Garmin he said the fix would be for both. I don't know about all the other ones . Maybe someone who has one will say something.
