tom I do have the 987, but so far its doing as good as the newer units at finding stuff. I do think some units are better than others. Not sure why, But like everything else. Theres always some that work better then others.
Had a chance to buy a 1197 Friday. But don't think its going to do much better then mine. So will keep the old school unit until it lays down.
Also love it that I have 3 shots on humminbirds website. Shows the older unit can hang with the new ones.:D
Tom I would love to get mine and a newer one some day. And scan the same stuff. And get to see how close they are.

I would suggest updating to software on the unit.

We are all time taking people suggestion and making changes in the software to make it more user friendly.

In the next couple of weeks we are going to release software that will include that the units will save your tracks.

Brush piles on the 997 don't show as good as hard wood. You have to look for them. My 800 frequency is all but useless to me. I have tried and haven't found a place where it helped. I would like to try the old 262 freq and see what that is like. All in all, I am very happy with the unit.

If I did more night fishing, I would have to get the screen-not-diming issue fixed.

This one is with the 262,
I have all the updates on mine. Hope the one that saves the tracks works on mine also.

Thanks Red. They look good. Much better than the 800. Every single time I have switched over to the 800, the screen was too dark to be useful.

One of my favorite shots was taken with 800.. I love this pic.. It has everything, old slew to the left, creek channel almost forms a box, good shadows of leaning trees into the channel, fish etc.etc... If anyone can figure out what the large object (with big shadow) right of the cursor is let me know.. Have no clue but it's interesting.. Love my 997

Wow. That is a good pic. Mine on 800 won't do that.

I like my Bottom Line made here in Idaho. They have every thing you need, gps, Sidefinders. They also make downriggers called cannon. I have a electric downrigger and a manual. You can't go wrong with a bottom line. I have two fiah finders on my Jet Boat. One on the dash mounted and the other mounted in the back is my sidefinder..

It's only down 12 ft, get some goggles and dive in and look at it up close :D:D:D It looks like a fallen tree to me, but I'm probably wrong.
