Simulator mode, should be able to mark waypoint without antenna connected. Try this too.
Process of elimination = good troubleshooting. Try all suggestions.
On power up, the screen appears immediately after loading. Should show:
current software version 3.940. If it don't show up here, hit the menu button on power up at the Humminbird page screen. Should see it here.

Hey Joby, I have tried everything these guys have said and the software is up to day, I have checked and rechecked all connections and the unit just will not read the gps puck. I can't understand why?
Do you think the gps puck is bad, or is something wrong with the 797 unit? Can you guys fix this for me?
