I was off yesturday day, but I felt my ears a burning. I would finding a power supply 120 volt and 2 to 5 amp wall adapter. Buy a power cable and splice it together. All I know about the this is something to do with the FCC. I do understand your point.

I get to play the rest of the week. I will be at the Bass Master Classic in Greenville SC.

Joby, thanks for answering. I would like to know how Garmin and other product manufactures seem to be able to have thier power supplies hooked to the wall but HB can't?

I'm not sure that I understand this situation.

Well, to start with these weren't meant for these new rigs, you can do every thing with them via the SD card. They were made way back for way older models, pre side scan. I just did the 7.5 battery thing cause I wanted the PC cord to wire my Humminbird to the laptop out in the boat.

Warren, gotcha. The point is they are selling $1,000.00-$3,000.00 units now. They CAN make a chord that works...trust me. Seems like they are just trying to sell off the old inventory before they come out with the new "improved" chord that will work. Watch, I bet they will come out with one in the near future.

When big business comes out with something the public wants, they find a way to make some extra cash off the deal. The money for the unit isn't enough. I think Tom has beat it to death but it still needs to be said...they ain't working for us. The main goal is to make as much money as possible and if we buy it, which I have, they will contiinue to put the screws to us.

So it's utimately up to us. Do we buy the lastest technology and thus take a ripp'n? I just bought a HB 787c so I guess the answer is yes as much as I hate to admit it. These kinds of issues have to be attacked where it hurts them the most and that is in the wallet. Don't buy and they have to make a change.

That's one of the great things that we haven't lost here in America. We have a choice!

Why is the cord/cable even necessary? You can update with a sd card faster and safer.I'm betting there wont be a new cable! The present cable was for units that you could not update with an sd card!

Explain the SD card deal. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MY UNIT IN THE HOUSE W/O FREEZING MY BEHIND OFF PLAYING WITH IT IN THE BOAT. Sure I can get a card and put it in the computer and download waypoints but that's not what I'm refering to. If you invest $2,000 in a HB 997, you want to be able to use it in the house to become familar with the technology...don't you? A $2,000.00 unit with a jerry rigged chord, come on.

Like I said before...a chord isn't too much to ask. If you know another way then tell all but Tom hasn't mentioned the card being the savior to all my problems.

I guess the key is which cable you are talking about. To use in the house you will the power cable and a small 12 volt battery OR even better an ac converter that puts out 1 amps at 12 volts. you can buy the converter at radio shack or on the net!
I purchased this on ebay It has the proper plug end already on the converter so you do not even need the power cable.
Here it is. I have one ,works great! Priced right! Best thing since sliced bread!:D

To update any 900 series or transfer waypoints all you need is a sd card.

    Default HB power

I had some old HP fish finders. I took the power cable, (exact same one) and took an inline fuse, twisted the wires up and hooked it to my battery pack (the kind you jump start a car with) and used the clamps to hold the wires. Worked like a charm. Figured it was just like what was in my boat.
