I have three color Lowrance units and a 797 Humminbird. Color is way better. Once you get the hang of setting sensitivity you will be able to see if structure is holding fish by how dark the colors appear on image. Darker colors mean denser structure but if you fish a lot of stakebeds as I do on Kentucky Lake you will be able to see them as a darker image them pull over them and fish for a couple of minutes and pull off then turn around and pull back over and the same structure will be lighter in color. " Why" because the fish have left. Stakebed fish can be spooked very easy so you must get them caught quickly, hince that is why the whole spider rig system is so effective. Also I can tell if I am on a school of bait or is it white bass when I guide for them in summer. Like I said color is way better and they have come a long way in seeing them in bright light compared to the earlier models.
