    Default Hummingbird Wide Side Sonar

Has anybody tried the Hummingbird Wideside Sonar transducer? I see where it is supposed to show a side to side view for a unit without the SI technology. Does it work? Would it be worth the money?

I bought the Quad Beam transducer for my trolling motor mount on my boat but I didn't know about the wide side. Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You sure thats not the Quadra Beam Plus. It uses the 450khz freg the side scan uses only in single crystals for narrow beams out at an angle to each side. This, instead of the wide swath of the side scan has the more traditional vertical sonar look. Maybe easier to read if it is.

The Qudra Beam plus is what I bought for my trolling motor mount. Hummingbird has another transducer listed that is called a wide side sonar. I read a description about it on another webpage (not the hummingbird website) but I didn't bookmark the webpage so I don't know where I found it.

After I posted the message above, I found this webpage.

If you look at this webpage and scroll down toward the bottom it has a description of the Wideside Sonar. I just wondered if anyone had this tranducer on their unit and if it was worth buying.

Ok, the Quad beam looks down at about 35 degrees while it sounds like that wide scan shoots out at close to 90 degrees. To me it's look like it'd be hard to tell any thing a part at that angle with out side scan.

See if I can get Humminbirds quad beam diagram to load here.

ps, Or is it this one.

It's and add on transducer that only shoots one beam out to the side. You mount it on the trolling motor so it beams out horizontally. Scratching my head on this one.

From what I read the 787c2i is not being made anymore. Older model, one made before 797 & 997 guys can along. For that $829.oo dollars add a buck or so & get a 797si.(whole new great view) If U are talking about just the transducer -the quadra beam one, u have to call Humminbird Customer service and ask them if it will work with your present Unit, whatever that one is?

Where did you read that they are not making the 787c2i anymore? The unit is $829.99 with the Navionics 06' map set preloaded on it. I just bought one for $567.00 online. They are always going to make units that are not SI capable.

No biggie...I just wanted to read that article because that particular unit isn't very old and one of the best units you can buy from HB before going SI. Just wanted to make sure something funny wasn't going on as I have one on order.

    Thanks for the info.,

That Quadrabeam is kinda like a side imaging little brother. Its range is limited to the depth you are fishing . For example in 35 foot of water you could read out 35 foot on each side. My present setup on my small boat consists,of a 987C with a transducer switch. The two transducers are both mounted on the transom. The quadrabeam is for high speed and the side imaging transducer is when I am on the hunt. My 987C is GPS linked with a 777C2 that's transducer is a Quadrabeam that is mounted on my electric trolling motor.

My trolling motor is deployed on the side. Side pulling is like spider rigging except that you use the side of the boat. Since these transducers are directional mounted I could not use the transom transducers. Hence this was a solution I came up with.

Another and cheaper solution would have been to use the transducer switch and use the Quadrabeam on the trolling motor for the 987C. The way I went allows for greater backup usage and its versatility is great.

If you cannot afford a 997 or 1197 look for a 987. I can personally attest that they are fine units. Yes, the newer ones are better , the SI frequency is higher ( better definition ) and a stronger processor. But the 987 is nothing to sneeze at. It is showing up at affordable prices as guys are upgrading to the newer ones.
