This is what HB has on their website .

    "WideSideŽ Sonar
    (with optional-purchase WideSideŽ
    transducer)
Your 700 Series™ Fishing System also
    supports WideSideŽ sonar with the
    purchase of an additional WideSideŽ
transducer. The WideSideŽ transducer is a
    specialized "side-looking" transducer that
is extremely useful for bank fishing or
looking for bait fish in open water. The
    WideSideŽ transducer uses three different
sonar elements that transmit signals to the
left, right and straight down from your
boat. The downward beam is 200 kHz with
a 24° area of coverage. This beam
    maintains a continuous digital depth
readout from the bottom directly beneath
your boat. The side beams are 455 kHz with
    a 16° area of coverage. The side-looking
elements can be used independently, or
together to locate targets near the surface
of the water on either side of your boat."

This transducer is different than the QB Plus transducer. HB site says it is a 150 degree view. This would seem to be equivalent to side imaging just without the better graphics of the SI units.

Just wondering if anyone has this on their boat and how it would work.

The wideside has 3# transducers. 1-24*down and 2-16* to each side. The pdf manual of the 717 shows each transducer that can be used and the view of each. Different screen views are available for each transducer. With the wideside the default is left and right side viewable but either right or left is selectable.
Here is the pdf if you want to see it. I'm planning to get one next week.
This is the only fish finding system I've found that will do me any good.
