Default Group 24 sized trolling motor battery for small boat?

I'm using a small plastic Bass Hunter / Pelican sized boat with a 40 lb. thrust trolling motor. I can save a few precious pounds and inches of space if I switch to a smaller group 24 size trolling motor battery. I never run my large group 27 battery more than 30% discharged as my lakes are relatively small.

Anybody use a smaller battery and happy with it?

My understanding is that a 27 is smaller than a 34????????

Think you mean group 24. If so if it's deep cycle it would be more than sufficient for your application.

I use a 24 on a yak set up with a 30# TM, should not be a problem. You can always "test" the trolling time for a size 24 by just keeping up with the distance and time you use the TM on a typical day. Should put one of those small/extendable paddles in the boat for those "aw shucks" moments tho.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I recently had a WalMart Ever Start cranking battery go bad (Series 24). I went to get it replaced and told the clerk I wanted to upgrade to Series 27. He then showed me the Series 24 they carry has 1000 cold crank amps and the Series 27 had 750. I stayed with the 24 for my cranking battery.

When I had my Bass Hunter II; I powered it with a 2.5 hp Eska and grp-31 deep cycle just like having reserve capacity.

Which Series 24 was that, Doug ?? Mine says it only has 500 cranking amps & 75ah, but it is a "selection #92" mfg'd in Feb 2012.
