    Default Im tired of...

The interference i get from my x5 motorguide...i have done just about everything ive heard to do but still get it on my humminbirds. A buddy of mine using same hbs with a minnkota tm has no issues..never been a fan of minnkotas because i thought they are overpriced. But after spending time with his thinking they are built better. The model im looking at or the i can afford is the terrova with the new spot lock. Does anyone have any input good or bad regarding them? And where is a good place to buy one from if i go that route. Thanks shortdraw

Last year I switched over from a Motorguide to a Minn Kota Powerdrive and have been happy with it.Took a
little while to get use to the electric steer coming from the cable steer, but I like it better now especially for any kind of trolling.I got it from Brian at BBG Marine, great prices and service.

The interference generally comes from the variable speed models, so be sure you are comparing apples to apples. 5 speeds generally don't cause problems.

TM interference can encroach into Sonar systems in 2 common paths ...

    1. Thru the Sonar power system ...

    2. Thru the Sonar xducer channel(s) system ...

(sometimes 3. Head unit itself - but rare) ...

Until the interference is certainly identified as to which path it's encroaching into the Sonar = we're chasing rabbits ...
    -----

You've no doubt determined it's TM creating the interference ... but have you determined which path the interference is even getting into the Sonar system ...??

Find the culprit path of encroachment - and the rabbit is easier to catch ...

Ok i can believe that...now what would be the best way to find out? I only notice it di...ive run a ground wire from the skeg to neg on battery, i have put th ferrite on the power cord on the front unit..i have direct power to battery to each unit...granted at some speeds i dont get any interference but others i get alot...usually the slower speed is when i see it...im open for help...thanks

Remove the xducer and all xducer cabling from the TM ...

Hang the xducer in the water away from TM ... and make sure the cable isn't close to any part of the TM, it's wiring, or pedal ...

*If the interference goes away = the encroachment path is thru the xducer or xducer cable ...
*If the interference is still present = the encroachment path is thru the Sonar power system somewhere ...

This will tell you for sure which tree you need to be barking up. I'm running an MG x3 variable and Garmin 93sv. I never see interference all spring and summer, in the fall I move to a deeper lake and in the past would see spikes when hitting on button. I only see this when I get above 12 or so feet. I verified thru the above process. Made some cable path changes over the winter and will see next month. Mine was only present on 2d btw. Lots of good advice here. You can get interference from any brand of either product. Other variables also play into the equation beside name. What Rickie said is one of the best 'no money spent' ways of finding out where to look.

I agree .... Rickie's suggestion is the place to start the process of elimination. If holding the transducer and cable away from the trolling motor clears up the interference you would know for sure it is the source .... then trying the XTM transducer would be a good next step.
