So I'd like to purchase a fish finder for my 1542 stick steer boat.
Mostly fish small bodies of water and a max depth of 25 to 30 foot
I've one some research and I like the Humminbird Helix 5 DI.
Any suggestions???
I love my helix di unit
I have a Helix DI with GPS and temp.......I really like it.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Hey G...check out a thread i just started since we have the same unit maybe you can answer those questions for me.
Make sure it has gps and temp!
Lots of people like the Helix units..try to go to a dealer who has that unit, or something similar on display. Put your hands on it and ask questions. Having DI really adds to fishing ability. Finally you can go over a spot where you've caught fish and actually see what is down there! Then go find areas that look similar. Or maybe you will just be idling along and spot a whole school of fish under the boat.....happens a lot. You will get an idea of what depth the fish are using that day, because that seems to be one of my weak spots (I have a few!). I get it into my head that fish will be at 12-14', even tho I may be fishing 10' under them!
I would agree that having GPS is important, so when you find one of these spots you can get back to it time and again.

How about this shot!![]()
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.
I would get a sonar myself. They work better, but can't find fish.

Check out the Lowrance Chirp 4, similar price range with advanced features not available from Humminbird. Lowrance gives you more features but small screen. Humminbird gives less features but a nice screen. Decide what's most important for you and how you fish.
