    Default New Electronics?

Ok been using hummingbirds for the last 30 years.Like them and had good service out of some of them. But still hate that when spider rigging in hot weather or winter. It will not show me moving unless I'm going faster then what I fish. So have to use my cheap hand held Garmin. Also to have SI on all three, I have to buy higher priced units to pull this off. Hate moisture in units and this has been an issue the last 10 years.

So thinking about going with Raymarine where I can buy 2 units and use a tablet for the other unit. Also buy Raymarine’s CP200 CHIRP SideVision Sonar module and run it on the other unit also. Plus have Bluetooth to connect to tablets and use the Tablet for the GPS.

Or go with Garmin and try out there units?

    Or Lowrance units?

I will have to say I like that with the newer Birds I can make my own maps and stuff. But the moisture issue just burns my butt along with the GPS not showing movement when you're around .2 or .3 MPH.

Plans are to spend around $4500 to $5000. on electronics and will have them set up to swap between boats. So will have to also have 2 mounting kits for each unit..
This will be for our Retirement and I hope to be able to fish 4 to 6 days per week them. That is a little over 3 years off. So may just go cheap for now and see what comes out between now and then.

Pete, 4-6 years from now who knows how advanced they will be. Think right now I'd stay with what you got and see if you can't find a more accurate stand alone GPS unit.

I visit upwards of 19 forums every day ...

This is the 1st account of "reoccurring" moisture in HB units that I have read ...

I have read of an occasional moisture issue when there were other factors involved ...like bad seal on SD Card door ... Bezel problem ... Or maybe complete immersion over a long period ...

We're your moisture issues covered during the warranty time period ... ??

BTW ... here is some of my 1st hand experience with Raymarine's new stuff ...(you can make your own observations from the images and info provided in that thread) ...

    GPS less than 1mph is a tough one....1mph = 1.47ish ft/sec.
Your internal GPS is relaying to satellites and back 10 times a sec. When you add WAAS to GPS you're only looking at 2.5 meters of accuracy - that's 8 feet. I believe the slow speed accuracy is within +/- .75mph 'ish

Add a compass heading GPS antenna and it will at least show you your boat orientation. Takes care of the donut for the most part.

If you leave your unit on the boat while stored it will always get moisture. Not just hummingbirds. A heading sensor solves GPS issue. I fish mine in rain and don't get moisture in it.
