I have a 898c hdsi. Lately my depth readings will not stay stable in all depths of water. It doesn't give an exact reading. It continually jumps from depth to depth staying with in roughly a 1 1/2 ft range. It does not stabilize and hold any depth tho
I know I'm over flat bottom. I've been fishing primarily in 16-18 ft of water. Anyone else with this problem?
Check and see if transducer is loose.
Do you have only the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T connected to the 898 or are you using an additional Dual Beam xducer with the AS SIDB Y cable ...??

Is there another sonar unit running on the boat at the same time?
Is there anyone else that you know who has a non-DI model Humminbird unit that would let you cross-test with them? This would show where the problem is: unit or boat.
Boatbottom,
See if you have the same problem with the other sonar unit turned off. What you may be seeing is sonar-to-sonar interference (also called "cross-talk").
What make/model is this other sonar unit? You may be able to swap units around and see if either shows the same problem or not.
