    Default Help me

Got a question for y'all. I got a lowrance touch 9 unit. Heading fishing to a lake I know little about. My father in law has plenty of waypoints marked from this lake and has them downloaded onto a SD card. Only thing is he has every lake he has ever fished loaded on the same card. I know the card has over 5 GBs of info on it. I don't need but a bergs small portion of the cards memory. So to my question, is it possible for my unit to read the card and show me the waypoints without downloading it to the hard drive. If not how much hard drive does a unit have and would 6 GBs be to much to store on one

I pretty well positive it won't read waypoints off the card without downloading them.

You can export waypoints by region on your Touch 9, so you might want so save your current waypoints to a new SD card, download your father-in-law's waypoints to your unit, export to your SD card the lake you want to fish(by region), then delete the waypoints from your unit, and reload the waypoints you exported from you unit to the new SD card. You should have your waypoints, plus the waypoints from the lake you want to fish.

Just kidding man. I am pretty good at reading sonar and getting better at the side and down imaging, but that is as far as I go. Don't have a clue about downloading to regions. Ha, the other day I did manage to download the updates for my touch 9 and my elite 7 onto SD cards but cannot figure out how to download to unit. But anyhow I do appreciate the help

Downloading updates from an SD card is usually pretty simple. On the HDS units the card is inserted into the powered OFF unit. Turn the power on, and let the unit run the update. don't interrupt the update by turning the unit off. I don't have a touch unit, but have a Gen 2 button unit, so the procedure should be about the same. Exporting or importing information is done from the Waypoints, routes, and trails menu that you get from pressing your pages button. If you go to that page , then go to the Waypoints, routes and trails database ,then hit enter. Downloading by region isn't really a region, but you use the cursor to select the area you want to export. Don't be afraid to look at these pages and experiment with them. Learning to use the capabilities of these units can really enhance your abilities on these units. I back up my settings, and waypoints in case something happens to the unit where you might have to do a hard reset, or send the unit back to Lowrance. It is a good idea, no, it's important to have your information backed up. What would you do if you lost all your waypoints? Get in there and press on that screen. You can always hit cancel, but if your settings and waypoints are saved on a card, if you screw up just go back and import the information and you are back in business. Learn how to do this. I was just like you in that I could read the sonar and imaging, but paid someone to tutor me on the units capabilities and will say that it was money well spent. Found out I didn't know much about sonar and imaging either. Don't be afraid to post questions either.

Thanks for the info buzzsaw. I tried loading the updates that way but neither the touch or the elite would take them. You are right about learning the units. I got a problem of trying to catch fish while out on the water and not taking the time to sit around and push buttons

Did you unzip the updates before you put them on the card?

To tell you how illiterate I am justin I don't have a clue what that means. My wife brought me home an SD card reader and these updates were the first thing I have ever attempted. The computer showed they went to the card just can't get them to my units

Did you save the download to your computer or to the card? How did you transfer it to the card?
