    Default reading bottom

Went Tuesday. I have a Elite 7 HDI and was loosing bottom in shallow water. It seems in my " OLD EMPTY HEAD" that I remember someone saying on this forum to "turn down the plng speed ". I did and it seemed to help. Is there anything else I need to do? Maybe also turn down the sensitify. Still trying to learn . Thanks for any comments.....crappie 1133

If I remember correctly, I think you need to "speed up" the ping speed. Slowing it down would mean that the ping is being sent to the bottom, and the return rate would take longer to come back to your transducer. Speeding it up will ensure the ping returns quickly to your transducer.

I know this would be the case in deep water. Shallow might be another story. I use HDS units but I think the Elite is pretty similar. You might throw an anchor and play with some settings for a little bit. Best way I have found to figure out a new unit. Every day I find some setting that "could" be used in some situations. Other times, I simply find a bunch of stuff that is "cool" but won't help me any. Other than winning a "awesome piece of equipment" contest with a buddy or two.

Now, if I could just get this thing to tell me what bait to use, how high to jig, and warm up a cheese sandwich I'd never head home! Speaking to me in a loving tone while calling me master would also be awesome!

Scrapiron, Only seem to have a problem in water less than 6 feet. Could it be some other setting to high or maybe to low. Thanks for the input....crappie1133

I am having the same issue with a new HDS7. 6 ft and shallower I lose bottom. The entire screen is cluttered in red. Can seem to find an adjustment that fixes it. Did you ever figure out the problem, Crappie?
