Have you tried restore defaults? I've never seen anything like that on mine.

Anyone know what this line is at the 5 ft level ,I can get it to go away by dropping the sensitivity back To 4 but that too low to get a good bottom signal ,,,this is a 898 hd ,, I had and older 898 and never noticed this line

Has this just started or has it been this way since you first got the unit...??

I bought the unit new about 4 months ago , I had to send it back to hummingbird service for another problem , just got it back recently and started noticing this line don't know if it was there all along or not
I think it's the temperature line, but not sure. I turned mine off the first day. You may have a transducer mounting issue. Is SI showing good to each side?
The black line is the temperature line. But, I think the question relates to the thick colored line around the 5 foot level. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Probably another software glitch from the HB programming crew. Seems to be a lot of this nowadays.
Yes I am talking about the colored line at the 5 ft line,, I haven't used this unit 6 times and already had to have a new antenna puck no gps , and send the unit in for a SI problem , I am wondering if humminbird has a lemon law policy and would just replace the unit, I had an older 898 unit for 3 years with no problems at all
Bought a 997 in 2007. Came with a bad transducer. HB replaced it and it worked great until I sold it, sometime in 2011, I think. Sold it and bought a 998 and a year later another 998. They have worked great. Only problem I've had with these is when I upgraded the software to anything higher than 6.49. Stay with it and everything works great.

Ljones,
Any chance that the water was actually about five feet deep instead of ten feet deep like was being shown?
What transducer(s) is this unit using and where is/are they mounted?
What Beam Select, Water Type and Surface Clutter menu settings are you using?
