I'm gonna have to defer this to Greg...
I don't have access to much info on the new CHIRP capabilities yet...
Greg will most likely check Monday....
Here's some CHIRP info for you...

I sold my humminbird 998 to buy ION. Now I want to use of advantages of Chirp tansducers but my mind confused about them!On the official page of humminbird, it writes that "In order to view all three ranges, you’ll need two CHIRP transducers, plus two SM3000 black boxes". Actually I m interested in only fish! So I think I dont need the low range which make us able to see 10000 feet depth. But when I look at the page that shows chirp transducers for small boats of airmar. I saw that there is no one transducer that contains high and medium range together that you can see at this page;
http://www.airmartechnology.com/uplo...booklet_hr.pdf
But They have them seperate transducers for medium and high range.
So the question is; if I buy the ION and want to use these two chirp transducers for medium and high range, will I need two SM3000 to connect them ?
Thanks

Where can you buy Chirp transducers and are they worth the putting on an 899?
It is my understanding that you will need to have two of the black box sonars connected to your ION unit’s Ethernet network to be able to do this.
The 899 units are not CHIRP sonar capable.
