have a 70ld powerdrive ipilot on a 17 ft aluminum boat(bass layout) and found a deal i couldnt pass up on a terrova 101 ipilot universal sonar and have a few questions.
1-do u think the 101 will be to much for a 17 ft boat, not sure if im gonna keep it or sell it yet
2-is their a way to tell which generation ipilot it has, came with a brand new remote in the package
3-is the universal sonar any good, worth using
4-is it hard to cut the shaft down, the shaft is a 60 and i would need 50-54
5-will the terrova mount with the same holes from the powerdrive
thanks![]()

I doubt it's too much thrust, but it may snatch you around if you give it full juice. Isn't the 101 36 volt, while the 70 is 24 volt? If so, then you would need another battery. As far as the US2, it only works with 200/83 Hz sonar, as I learned today. I have first generation Ipilot, it's clunky looking remote and dark gray color. The next in line has a black remote looks more like an alarm key fob.
That's all I can speak of, dunno about cutting composite shaft, or if the footprint is the same between PD and Terrova.
That will work just fine on your boat. Just because you have 101 lbs of thrust don't mean you have to use it all the time. Just be sure you are not standing up and hit the rabbit. If it stores 6 routes then it is 2nd gen. There probably is an easier way tho. Yes you can cut the shaft down (search You Tube) and I believe it has the same mounting holes. US is OK but it only works with some units and you have to have the proper adaptor cable.
one more question will the 6ga wire and breaker from my 24 volt setup be ok if i switch to the 101 36volt setup
dont have stuff to hook it up at he moment and the guy i bought it from said it came on a 2yr old ranger he bought.he gave me the newer remote brand new in the package ,but he wasnt sure if it was the new or old ipilot, maybe it has numbers under the head, will check in a day or two, thanks
pulled the head today and found #1866200 that means its the first generation ipilot #1866300 is the new ipilot part number. At least it came with the new style remote ,believe i will like it better ,used the remote with my powerdrive earlier today.
With the 2nd generation iP remote, buttons are more sensitive than gen1 and accidental button pushes are common. Accidentally hitting the bunny button when you are fishing in tight quarters (near other boats, close to rip rap, under bridges, etc.) can be very bad. Another very bad accidental button push is the spot lock button when you are running at high speed. This one could EASILY throw you out of the boat if you are standing.
